BuffaloWeather
Lake Erie as of yesterday was 67 degrees, highest before for the date was 64. So we are +3 above the previous all time record. The warmth this month is just insane.

BuffaloWeather
EPS and GEFS have another warmup at end of October after a brief cooldown. Not nearly as impressive as the last warm spell though.
BuffaloWeather
Lots of rain this morning as well. This is the first year where I never had to refill my pool all season long. Usually I fill it every 2 weeks the previous 2 summers.
wolfie09
It wouldn't be a lake effect event without the potential for graupel lol Graupel and a few rumbles of thunder are possible near the lakes in these bands of rain Hi Rez Canadian has some stronger bands tomorrow morning, early afternoon.. TugHillMatt
I actually had to put the AC on last night because it was so unbearably warm with a "low" of 70 and dewpoints in the upper 60s in the freaking tropics of Sizzlercuse. Yet again, on par with warmest temps in NY equivalent to heavily urbanized New York City (low 70s). I am so over it Yes, I am looking for new locations starting in Spring. Lol I didn't know you hated the warmth that much, where you thinking? Hopefully still in upstate. You could always build a house on the Adirondack mountainside. That way you can guarantee cold all year long. 2
wolfie09
It's lovely out lol Pouring with almost an inch on the day.. Next update sizzlecuse should be lower, we went from 68° to 62° once the heavy rain moved in..Winds starting to pick up as well..

You could always build a house on the Adirondack mountainside. That way you can guarantee cold all year long. I have grown to enjoy the "warm season" more, especially since I LOVE plants and gardening. I have always loved the cold seasons better though. They are much more comfortable for me. The thing I hate is how much longer and more extreme the summers are becoming and then extending into my favorite season, Fall, which seems to be disappearing. I also hate living in a place that heats up SO EASILY with the gentlest of breezes or first peak of sunshine. I am truly dumbfounded by the ability of Syracuse to heat up ridiculously fast. It may be a northern city that "supposedly" gets lots of snow, but the temperature climate is quite annoyingly warm for a northern city. We will see about our next move. The wife and I have discussed a few options. She is advancing well in her current job and if we do end up staying, hopefully we can find an affordable home. We also have discussed Garrett County, MD, maybe Canaan, WV, or maybe back to Michigan. When we went back this summer, we realized how much we miss "our Michigan." Lots up in the air....we could very well end up here another year or two...I will just have to accept, as difficult as it may be for me (lol), that Syracuse is a furnace.

You just need to experience a real winter in Syracuse. They usually get pounded. I think it was 2010-2011 they had a really good winter. They got 40-60" in this storm https://www.weather.gov/buf/lesEventArchive?season=2010-2011&event=C A couple days later got 20" from this one. https://www.weather.gov/buf/lesEventArchive?season=2010-2011&event=D 2010-2011 is a top analog for this upcoming year. 1
BuffaloWeather
Syracuse has been below average for snow 3 straight years, I'd be surprised if we go for a 4th. I know here in the northern burbs can do better too. If we end up staying in the area, the zone between here and Fulton is definitely an area we will be looking at. 1 hour ago, BuffaloWeather said: Syracuse has been below average for snow 3 straight years, I'd be surprised if we go for a 4th. P.S. Their maps are often SOOOO off compared to the reports listed. I have noticed that many times. If you were to extend their colors/totals to Syracuse, according to the map, it wouldn't show the 40 to 60 inches that was recorded.
wolfie09
They go by what's reported from the spotters.. Phoenix for example had 22"..That's how lake effect rolls lol Two to four feet fell within the narrow band off Lake Ontario as well...from Wayne County to the Syracuse area. In fact, some Syracuse area locations received close to five feet. The gradients were extreme though...with only a few inches falling over many nearby locations. Off Lk Ontario: Lacona....51 inches Newark....42 inches Fulton....29 inches Marion....29 inches Phoenix....22 inches Rochester area....14 to 24 inches Syracuse area....40 to 60 inches

But my wife has made it pretty clear if we move outside of the Syracuse area, it will NOT be another location in New York state. Ha. There are several reasons for that...
