Pretty ominous wording from the NWS

Yeah but the CAJUN NAVY is saving people. Interesting question whether these people help or hurt, and what their existence says about the failures of governments in america.

We are broke - we can't afford to prepare proper; we are broken. Too expensive to get the contractors in place beforehand.

FFS, It's a volunteer organization. I wouldn't go making sweeping condemnations of government or the US wa of life based on this.  Seems like its a positive thing. People helping people. If you're relying on govt or big private companies to help you...you're doing it wrong.

The ratio on this guy is to die for. This is why we love Twitter.  Has to be fake. The thread has figured out he's either the biggest idiot in the world or making it up.  #HurricaneRatio

Another perspective is that they are amateur disaster vigilantes who are putting themselves in harms way by LARPing as first responders. Even if some of them are organized the popularization of them is going to encourage their version of Midwestern storm chaser to go try rescuing someone…

This has to be a record for strongest sustained, and gusting winds RECORDED in a hurricane... right?

If verified it would top hurricane Andrew’s 142 mph.  It should be noted though that this measurement occurred before the worst of Andrew’s eyewall passed over Fowey rocks.  Nevertheless epic storm Ida was.
