I actually thinking moving north will help it. I think the SW quad is slightly crushed right now. Moving away further north could improve the ventilation. FLweather
The eye of Ida is expanding over the last few frames. Convection has waned as well from IR and WV.

Ed, snow and hurricane fan
30 knot plus sustained 10 meter (buildings will get that to street level, I'd think) winds in NOLA by 18Z, 80 knot 850 mb winds just South of MSY itself, or gusts to hurricane force not much over a day away. KPITSnow
I am not in any capacity an expert, but in my experience this has the look of a storm that is about to go through some pretty significant intensification.
OSUmetstud
raw Advanced Dvorak Technique is up to T5.6. It's clearly strengthening. Just have to confirm how much via next recon.
jojo762
Getting plenty of GOES GLM feedback for the first time in hours in the latest convective blow-up in the eyewall. Bombs away.

Windspeed
Was just about to post this. Looks like we're in wobble mode with evolution via strong convective bursting around the eyewall. That being said, it looks as if Ida is still on the east side of the ensemble guidance.

jojo762
Verbatim a T5.6 is a borderline category 3 hurricane. I doubt we are actually there yet. Final T# of 4.7 (~82.2kt/95mph) is probably fairly accurate attm.

Master of Disaster
" Near-shore escape routes and secondary roads washed out or severely flooded. Flood control systems and barriers may become stressed. 9 feet or more of inundation is possible outside the hurricane protection levee on the east bank and for almost of all of the west bank except for areas near the Mississippi River. Overtopping of the east bank hurricane protection levee is possible. Life threatening inundation is possible" Don't recall the last time they mentioned overtopping is possible. 3

"Biggest storm since Katrina" is saying that Ida will not be as big as Katrina but will be bigger than every storm that has come between Katrina and now. Would you disagree that this will be the biggest storm since Katrina that New Orleans has faced?
