Roger Smith
Thanks for adding those snowfall totals. Some time this winter I will add in maximum weekly snowfalls for each date. Meanwhile, three new weekly rainfall totals have been set in 2021, weeks ending Oct 30, Oct 31 and Nov 1 all have slightly higher totals now than before. The records broken were from 1917 (30th) and 1943 (31st, 1st). The new records are 4.70" 4.71" and 4.48" ... there won't be any further records until the next time heavy rain falls, as today (Nov 2) we lose the 3.30" from Oct 26 which fell just short of being the seventh daily record broken in 2021 (1943 held on at 3.40"). Roger Smith
Have just edited in some second place temperature finishes for Dec 2021, weeks of 10th-16th to 12th-18th. While 2021 was unable to match 2015 for those weeks, it did move into second place for all three on mean maximum and mean daily, just the middle one of the three for mean minimum. The values can be seen in the December post back in the thread, but are basically around average highs of 58F and mean daily 50F, but in the vicinity of six degrees short of the 2015 record values, about 1-2 F above the previous second place values from years such as 1984 and 2006 (for those weekly intervals). Working on the record weekly snowfall amounts now. Will post those in about a week or so (maybe after the weekend storm does its thing).

Roger Smith
Thanks, will be updating my files later today to check for any recent record or near-record weeks. The only value added to the tables was a third place mean max of 55.86F for the week of Feb 17-23. No other top three values spotted in any categories since new years. Have fixed that typo where 1953 appeared instead of 1954.
Roger Smith
I have just added some new records or near-records for weekly values in the hot summer of 2022. First of all, the original post now shows rankings of 44th all-time for the hottest week (mean max 92.43) and t10th for mean minimum (77.00). There were two nearly equal hot weeks, July 19-25 and Aug 3-9. They also factor into daily records, the mean maxima did not displace any, but the mean minima came close in the July 19 to 25 spell, and tied one record, breaking another (both from 1908) around Aug 2-8 to Aug 4-10. For mean daily temperatures, the highest value in the first spell was 84.29 (July 19-25) which was just below the 2011 record of 85.21. The second hot spell peaked with 84.43 Aug 4-10 but that was below both 1896 (85.93) and 2001 (85.57). The previous day at 84.29 came closer to a 1980 record of 84.86 and would have broken the Aug 2-8 record from 1955 (84.21). A third rather hot spell was later in the month of August, with several top three outcomes. Although the peak was Aug 24-30, the records were more threatened a few days earlier when they are somewhat weaker. For example, the record for Aug 20-26 is only 79.64 (1939) and this year managed 79.50. But when this year was 80.43 Aug 24-30, that was well below the 1948 record of 85.14 and several other years.
Roger Smith
I have now corrected these entries as they have been confirmed -- week of Oct 31 to Nov 6 ties or breaks records as follows: Mean maximum 70.0, ties 1950, 1961 Mean daily 63.5, new record, breaks 62.57 (1974) Mean minimum 57.0, new record, breaks 55.86 (1974) _ a lower temp by midnight can still break this record, a tie would require 58 F. I expect Nov 1-7 to break records also. (later edit, Nov 1-7 new records set, in tables also ... 71.71, 65.57, 59.43 worth noting that all of Nov 2-8 to 6-12 have higher average maxima from 1975 (2-8, 3-9, 4-10) and 2020 (5-11, 6-12).
Roger Smith
Although Nov 1-7 was the warmest first week of November (avg 64.57), it was not quite the warmest week entirely within November, that distinction remains with Nov 3-9, 1975 (65.57). Nov 4-10 1975 was also warmer at 65.07. Then Nov 5-11 2020 was tied third in one decimal (64.64) although third ahead of this month's entry in two decimals. If one considered weeks with any November days in them, then Oct 26 to Nov 1, 1946 leads with 67.86. Nov 2 to 8 2022 will not set weekly records as the record values (also from 1975) are only marginally lower for mean, and higher for average max, than yesterday's result and today is considerably cooler than the 1st which it would replace in the average. Based on the early climate report, the average max for the week Nov 2-8 is 70.43 and the average min is 55.71, the mean therefore is 63.07.
Roger Smith
The recent mild spell set a number of weekly records for weeks ending Jan 2 to Jan 7. The mean maximum was a new record high for weeks ending Jan 4-5 (in both cases, 57.56, 57.42), while the mean minimum was highest 2nd to 6th, values as high as 47.71 (Dec 30-Jan 5). The mean was also a record high for weeks ending 2nd to 6th (52.57 for Dec 29-Jan 5). Then for the week of Jan 1st to 7th, the averages were second highest to 2007. These new records or close approaches are shown in the tables, weeks ending Jan 1-6 are in the January lists although they contain various numbers of days from December. Years that lost records to 2022-23 include 1984-85 and 2004-05.
Roger Smith
Feb 2023 has replaced eight record high daily means (for weeks ending 13th-20th) and the mean max was a new record for six (weeks ending 15th-20th) while the mean min was a new record for just four (13th-16th) ... 1984 held on to three ending 17th-19th and 1981 held on to week of 14th-20th. At either end of this streak there were a few second or third place finishes too. Details are in the thread (scroll back to page one, Feb records). This adds to the five new weekly record high daily means ending Jan 2 to 6 to give 2023 a total of 13 (out of 66 it could hold). At random it should have 0.3 ! Roger Smith
The heavy rains Sep 23 and 28-29 produced seven consecutive new weekly record totals. Sep 23-29 just edged out 1882 (8.86" to 8.82"). After that, faster decreases in previous records than the decreases in 2023 totals allowed each week to Sept 29-Oct 5 to set new records, at the expense of 1913 in the last several cases. Early Sept heat produced a notable but not record value of 73.00 as an average low for Sept 4-10. Current now ending late season heat is not quite at record levels -- the highest averages for Sept 30 to Oct 6 are 82/66 in different years (1922, 1898). The averages this year are closer to 78/62, so falling about four degrees below record pace.

In this case it was 9.06" so we just edged out those pre Irene totals.
Roger Smith
New weekly records were set for mean minimum and mean daily for weeks ending June 23-25 (but not for mean max), and second to fourth place values were noted for weeks ending may 28, June 22 and 26, and July 11-12. Rainfall for weeks ending July 17 to 20 were close to a record high value but did not set a record in any weekly interval including total of 3.64" July 13-17. Roger Smith
Recent warm spells failed to set new records for weekly average temps, and unlike many recent warm spells, mean max did better than mean min (a feature of the ongoing dry spell?) ... Oct 31 to Nov 6 was closest to record values but still ended up in fifth place, at 69.29, with three years (1950, 1961, 2022) all tied at 70.00, and 1982 at 69.71 (4th). Oct 19 to 25 (72.86) was 1.57 below 1947 record of 74.43. In between, various other intervals stayed 5-10 below record pace and never did better than the above. In the same interval of Oct 31 to Nov 6, mean min of 52.57F compared to record value of 57.00 (2022), and mean daily (60.94) was below record of 63.50 (2022). Oct 20-26 came closer to a record for mean daily, 63.07 vs 64.86 in 1947 (1920 and 2017 were also warmer than 2024).

I don't subscribe to that dubious 0.01 at Central Park, didn't see a single rain drop the entire month!
