Nada here (again) although thunder was heard before I took off to Roanoke around 2 pm. THEY (northern Roanoke) got a whopper of a storm between 6-7 pm, I'd estimate 3-4 inches fell in about 45 minutes, water running high and everywhere! Speaking of lots of rain, saw this little jewel on NWS Blacksburg site--

Cecil, Harford, and Dorchester counties in Maryland had rogue 500 year floods this week too. It's like the atmosphere just wants to dump rain in small areas and leave everyone else dry.

Do I get to complain about my 1/4” when you and Mattie go over an inch?

I might get close to 1.00” but there was a mini split over me until the line consolidated; however, when it opened up it *really* opened up.

The two closest CoCoRaHS reports come in at 0.26" and 0.56". That honestly seems low given the amount of water that fell from the sky for 20-30 minutes. Our pond is also nearly overflowing, whereas before the rain there was well over an inch between the water level and the top of the pond.

There is another report north of you at 1.55”.  I’d be surprised if you stayed under an inch based on radar estimates.

Today might be the last best chance for DCA and BWI to make a run at 100F. Looks seasonable to slightly below normal (gasp) for the next 7+ days after today. That sort of extreme heat is not impossible after August 10 certainly, but becomes increasingly anomalous.

Weekend into mid next week looks gorgeous. Unless you want rain.

Beyond that the GEFS wants to build some WA ridging, but not sure it will result in anything more than typical late summer heat and humidity. For the BIG HEAT mongers, time is running out.
