Tuesday Mostly sunny, with a high near 76. Tuesday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 61. Wednesday Mostly sunny, with a high near 74. So the cooler temps that were supposed to arrive today/tomorrow are now “a few days away.” What a surprise….

Buffalo Bumble
Some nice storms south of Toronto and the northern sky is looking dark here. Let’s see if anything holds together and hits our region this evening.

Buffalo Bumble
BUF at 11 pm is 80 degrees with a heat index of 85. Unreal.
TugHillMatt
Once again, it was hotter here than Birmingham, Atlanta, Charleston, etc... Dewpoint was in the 70s here just like down there, so it's not like that had any factor. My mind is seriously boggled by just how much the heat seems to move over top...latitude doesn't seem to make any difference.
Buckeyes_Suck
Anyone else following Ida? that track has potential to absolutely crush new orleans if it rapidly intensifies. Still a long ways out and anything can happen but now forecasted to be at cat 3 with the northeast eyewall on the wrong side of NO. 4

wolfie09
The cold front crossing the eastern Great Lakes Monday will exit southeast of the area Monday evening with any showers and thunderstorms ending from northwest to southeast. The passage of this cold front will mark the end of the long stretch of excessive humidity, with a gradual trend towards less humid and cooler air next week. High pressure will build into the Great Lakes and Ontario/Quebec Tuesday and remain in place through Friday supporting a stretch of mainly dry weather. The remnants of Ida will move northward towards the Tennessee Valley and then turn eastward towards the Carolinas or Mid Atlantic. Model consensus keeps most, if not all of the associated rain to the south of our area midweek. A cooler and much less humid airmass will move into the region by the middle of next week. The GFS is on the cool side of the guidance envelope, with our preference lying toward the warmer ECMWF/GEM solutions for Wednesday and Thursday. Even so, this will translate into highs in the mid to upper 70s by the middle of next week, with much cooler overnight lows and much lower humidity. Damn that is a huge nest. I've been on the lookout in every tree around the yard every time i mow the lawn for a nest. My biggest hate of summer is bee's, been nailed twice this summer. Are they white faced hornets?

Based on the nest type/shape and location of the opening, I’m guessing that’s a “white-ass hornet”? Actually called a bald- faced hornet. Be careful around those things, they can be aggressive and come after you with an army and they aim for your face! I paid someone to remove a nest a few years ago because I was not going to mess them. 1

wolfie09
Yeah I think you guys are right, they don't look like a typical bee, mostly black in color.. One day I bumped into the bush and a bunch came flying out, I thought they looked like big flies lol I just noticed the nest this morning, yeah I won't be messing with them lol

wolfie09
Lol Yeah if it was a giant Asian (murder) hornet I'd be in trouble haha Looking at photos they are absolutely huge lol These ones aren't that big..They are also mainly black, resembling a bald face hornet..From my research they have about a 4 month life cycle that ends around mid September..They are also known to be good for pest control lol They aren't that close to the house so I'll just let them finish their life cycle and remove the empty nest in fall/winter..
DeltaT13
Thats a beautiful bald faced hornet nest. No need to do anything with it if you made it this far and haven't had an issue. They are rearing queens for next year by this point and will wind down in the next 4-5 weeks. They are valuable insect predator and get a bad rap IMO. I've been studying Bees, wasps and ants my whole life. I find them fascinating. 1
vortmax
I'm not a fan of the yellow jackets that seems to nest like crazy in mid-summer and get nasty in late summer. Mean mothers when they're hungry and thirsty.
