Had a storm form right over me just south of Reston and got half an inch of rain according to my probably messed up weather station in the 10 minutes the storm lasted. Rained super hard and it was pretty cool watching a cloud form over you then just dump rain. No thunder or lightning whatsoever.

@high risk @WxUSAF hmmm... from afternoon AFD from LWX:

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
The backdoor front will continue to slowly progress toward the
south and west through tomorrow. The southwestward progression
of the front will limit the areal extent of the instability
tomorrow. As a result, the best chances for heavier rainfall
rates will actually be in the morning, before the front clears
the area. There is considerable spread amongst the members of
the 12z HREF late tonight into early tomorrow morning. Some
members (3km NAM and FV3 CAM) indicate that not much more
additional convective activity will continue late tonight into
tomorrow morning, while others have storms anchoring to the Blue
Ridge as weak low-level easterly flow intersects the higher
terrain as the front slowly sinks toward the south. The latter
scenario is quite concerning, and could produce high end
flash flooding if realized. As a result, it is certainly
something to monitor over the coming hours. However, with the
spread still evident in the CAMs, we do not feel confident
extending the watch in time just yet. Elsewhere across the area,
more of a stratiform rain is expected tomorrow to the north of
the front as a shortwave disturbance moves through. Some
leftover flooding issues could linger into tomorrow, but overall
it isn`t expected to be as much of a threat as today.

FFW just issued for central FfxCo, which we got an alert for as well here in the SE corner. Has certainly gotten much darker out and we've had 4-5 peals of thunder and some sprinkles, but we're not getting multi-inches of rain like they apparently have over the past half hour, roughly 5-7 miles to my W and NW.

EDIT (2 min later): The deluge has arrived.

Funny. Just to your NE where I am it’s barely raining

Oh my! My mother-in-law lives in Falling Waters. I'll have to check in with her. Has it subsided at all?

Sorry fir the late reply.  The rain ended right around the time of my post but for most of the prior 45 minutes it was probably a top 3 event for torrential rain in the 15 years I’ve been at this location.

i feel for you man. it was absolutely pouring when i left hunt valley. can only imagine how much flooding there is.

So, it was bad.

For those that know the city - the Univ. Balt School of Law at corner of Mt. Royal and Charles - just before you get to the train station. Right as I crossed over Mt. Royal I realized the water was a LOT higher there than I had suspected. I've never seen high water there so me and the car next to me drove into what you are told not to drive into. It was up to hood level and I think I may have lost contact with the road briefly. I did re-grip, car engine never cut off, and got through it. But now my check engine light is on as is the traction warning light. Got home, parked it, crawled inside, and am getting an early drink. If, when it dries out, those lights stay on, anyone had experience with this and car insurance? Should I make a claim if it ends up being something got damaged due to the high water?

My new work is probably about 7-8 miles SE of you... We're on 450 near the Waterworks Reservoir.

Still raining here.

Crazy. You're actually like 3 miles from me. I put my drone up and it was a wall of water looking that way. I'm up on Bell Branch, Rd. We're considered Gambrills. I ended up getting a nice steady light rain for a couple hours so I'm happy.

IMO, if your check engine light turns on tomorrow take it to a repair shop ASAP. You might've screwed yourself.
