Is it that crazy?

I know about 20 people who had covid in Ptown and they were either asymptomatic or very mildly symptomatic. They never would have been tested had the news of the "provincetown cluster" been everywhere.

Seems reasonable that as the spread is more significant in younger people who are mildly or asymptomatic there is going to be a big drop in testing and tons and tons of cases going unreported.

Also wrt to the Ptown cluster... I was there for about 10 days leading up to July 4th and town was an absolute mob scene. It's always packed in the summer but this was unbelievable. With terrible weather and bars/clubs so packed you couldn't move (with virtually no ventilation, low ceilings, etc) it seems like a perfect environment for a few superspreader events. Even worse than a cruise ship.

Not a huge surprise a number of vaccinated people were infected... but there were tens of thousands who weren't.

Just did the Norwotok (spelling) bike trail out in Hippie land (Hadley/Amherst).  We did it around a year ago.  Last year many people on the trail had masks.  Today almost none.  We are at the Quarters arcade bar.  Food was cheap and ok.  Seemed like normal.  Stopped at Maple Farm Food to load up for a charcuterie for this evening. Got some sweet desserts

Good to be out of the Covid loop for a bit.
Not happy about the school thing.

They basically left it up to the districts.

Yeah - seems like we're probably farther into Delta than we think and this will run its course sooner rather than later.

Ya definitely  agree with this.. Thebige is open as of now this year curious to see what happens.. usually draws over a million people in the 17 days its open..

I was thinking about getting vaccinated as many times as possible.  At $100 a pop, should be able to pick up some decent fun money.

Ya i wonder what the risks are for that?

We dont even know how the current vaccines will work out 5-10 years from now.

People start developing 3rd arms and stuff.

Echoing Ryan's sentiments up there...

The PTown outbreak probably resulted from a uniquely concentrated scenario, skewing rate or breakthrough cases to look worse in terms of risk than it will be or is, for the more normal population dispersion.

That's A

B,  the vaccines were never supposed to provide absolute protection. ..short memories... In fact, there was always advice that if a breakthrough happens (..and it was warned that would happen hello! ) the vaccine would lower the probability that the infection would result in hospitalization and death.

So far, nothing about that PT outbreak really is inconsistent with these statements.

That all said.. wtf!  There seems to be a goddamn entitled to utopia thing going on in people.   Folks, the worlds sucks and you are going to die!

Pick how...

This whole f'ing C19 thing won't die, not because COVID won't go away. NO!   It won't die because of this is this f'ed up conceit of entitlement to a no-worries care free existence people think they are somehow owed for living.

I hope everyone gets.  period.  Sorry just pissed off.. but really Humility is the pathway to both enlightenment and salvation.

India may have an overall low vax rate but with a population of 1.4 billion a 7% vax rate means around a hundred million people are vaccinated . They must know how the vaccines are doing.

Here's a live view inside your sinuses right now showing how the vaccine is holding up:
