A difference of 1000’ in a well mixed atmosphere can mean sometimes almost 10 degree difference. dendrite
I'd honestly like to see an old school COC summer like the 60s and 70s had...just to know it can happen again. I'm afraid those days are gone though. Mid/upper 40s in July are probably the best we can do up here...excluding the NNE rad pits.

But the fact we a torching permafrost areas is not helping.

We’re getting cutoff from those cP airmasses more and more in the deep summer and even when we get them it’s generally meh.

powderfreak
We got 46F last night. Getting even drier out now at 61/39. Dews slipping into the 30s with a breeze, almost hoodie weather. Looks like SLK snuck down to 39F and HIE at 42F.

Nice shot though Overcast here too, just like the 2 most recent lunar eclipses. Agree with the bolded. Back around 1970 we were shingling a roof in NNJ during a 93% eclipse and it was like a weird twilight near midday - strange to have short shadows and less light, but still full daylight. Dropping from 10,000 candlepower to 700 isn't all that impressive, especially since we read under electric lights at 100 c-p after dark.

Dews around 30 in Aroostook; if tonight is clear and calm some gardeners there might get an unpleasant surprise.
