Detroit got down to 45° this morning, missing the record low by 1°. I left the windows wide open and wake up to 59° on the thermomostat. A mostly cloudy day with temps in the 60s followed....oh how I love autumn in summer!

 

Some crazy temps in the usual Valleyed or elevated locations. 36ﾟ at Ann Arbor, 37ﾟ in White Lake. Some below freezing spots up North.

GRR just had two days in a row with a high of 69 which is very uncommon for this time of the year.  In the GRR afternoon AFD on Monday they had this interesting little comment -

At Grand Rapids, at this time of year having a day with a high in
the 60s happens only 7 years in 100, so this is a very low
Frequency  event if it does actually happen.

Completely overcast today thanks to the stratiform and debris clouds from the recent Super MCS. Second time that happened this month. Can't seem to go at least a month without an overcast day this year. With very little rain today, this was an absolute waste of any of the dry time. We may very well be repeat that tomorrow before the heat is on the day thereafter.

Picked up 0.51" from thunderless showers early this morning.  We're sort of sneaking through this period getting just enough rain to be beneficial, and very little thunderstorm activity.  Up to 2.99" for June now, with 2.09" of that just since this past Tuesday.

Hit 90 for the second time this year while CVG got 89'd. The convection did a great job dying off before it even got here.

Not to mention, while our annual percent of sunshine is low here in the Great Lakes (I think Detroit is around 51%), we typically have very sunny summers. It's unrealistic to not expect a single overcast day in a full month, but for as gray as it is from November through April, it's very Sunny in the warm season. I would bet it's actually sunnier here than it is in the South during summer.

I see DTW has logged yet another 89*F today (that's gotta be at like 20 88*F or 89*F days for the season).

Yet, stll no 90*F, even though DET has hit 90*F now 3 times. It's getting comical at this point.

Not quite (I gotta fact check you on this ).

Detroit's JJA skycover is similar to cities in the SE, but Texas is definitely still sunnier.

Today was actually the 6th time. 4 88s, 1 89, and now 1 90.

Anyone else notice how the air is unusually fragrant lately with all the humidity and rain?  Both good smells and bad smells are really strong.

Not sure if this already came up or not, but in my 45 years of existence, i've never witnessed a year where the cotton didn't fly.  It's probably one of the most pleasant changes i've seen.  I'm guessing it's from mid may cold snap we experienced in NW Ohio.  Any enlightenment is welcome.  I'm more of a micro physics guy so this is outside my wheelhouse.

i have very much noticed this, mostly good smells, bike rides through the parks have been wonderful

Probably COVID nose.  It messes up your sense of smell.
