bluewave
The 2.37 so far at ISP is 3rd the heaviest rainstorm for the last week of May. So with the rainfall in the forecast, Long Island is in track for the heaviest last week of May rainfall since 1984. I will also update the May monthly rainfall records as the rainfall totals increase. https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mesowest/getobext.php?sid=KISP&table=1&num=168&banner=off 29 May 7:56 am 48 45 89 NE 18G35 10.00 BKN014,OVC018 29.81 1013.2 29.92 T 0.55 2.37 Maximum 4-Day Total Precipitation for ISLIP-LI MACARTHUR AP, NY Click column heading to sort ascending, click again to sort descending. donsutherland1
Morning thoughts... Yesterday, New York City’s Central Park measured 1.22” of rain. That broke the daily precipitation record for May 28. The old record was 1.16”, which was set in 1906. More rain lies ahead. Today will be rainy and unseasonably cool. Numerous areas could set daily record low maximum temperatures. An additional 1.00”-2.00” rainfall is likely through tomorrow. Temperatures will likely top out in the lower and middle 50s in much of the region. Likely high temperatures around the region include: New York City (Central Park): 53° Newark: 55° Philadelphia: 54° Tomorrow will be mainly cloudy with some additional showers or periods of rain. It will remain unseasonably cool. Record low maximum temperatures for May 29 for select locations: Allentown: 58°, 1950 Atlantic City: 56°, 1946 Bridgeport: 58°, 1950 Farmingdale: 59°, 2017 Islip: 58°, 2017 New Haven: 58°, 2017 New York City-JFK: 57°, 1967 New York City-LGA: 58°, 1950 New York City-NYC: 51°, 1884 Newark: 60°, 1940 and 1950 Philadelphia: 56°, 1884 Poughkeepsie: 58°, 1990 and 2017 Scranton: 56°, 1967 Trenton: 57°, 1901 Westhampton: 58°, 2017 White Plains: 58°, 2017

wdrag
Good Saturday morning everyone, Judging from the mesonet reports etc, I suspect a few spots in our NYC forum will reach~ 4" by Monday morning. Cold and nasty but needed. For the record books here and there but main impact no picnics/beaches/causal walks. Also was aware of the severe wx threat a few days ago but somehow just wasn't too alarmed. Saw the reports in NJ/se NYS/n CT. Saving the topic posts for big flooding, more widespread SVR wind where concentrated BIUG damage or most involved. Seems like the forum is going well as is. Looking forward to the transition to 90+ heat and 70+ dew points sometime after June 6 through at least part of the second week of June. I see CPC likes it pretty warm week 3-4 and NAEFS has been bullish on the heat coming in June. This rain is making more surface moisture available for the Bermuda High to work with come June 6 onward. 5

Cfa
40’s and rain in late May is just wrong, we routinely see nicer days in the dead of winter. If it was 20-30 degrees warmer I wouldn’t mind, we really needed the rain, and the wind component is a nice touch as it’s been very boring lately.
SACRUS
Was down to 45 last night and now up to a balmy 48 on this what feels more like Christmas Weekend. 2.01 in the bucket and still raining anyone who was fearing a long lasting dry spell or even a drought should just look at the last and most recent 15 similar dry spells and how they ended much like this, with a deluge. Reports of power outages last night with the stiff NE wind and gusts to 30 + MOHs. Socked in clouds through and perhaps even Memorial day itself. This does look to be just a speed bump in the overall switch to warmer that started in mid May, albeit a speed bump that busts a few tires (worst timing too). Ridging building along the east coast should dominate the next week to ten days with more SW flow estabishing June 2nd 'bermuda high. Warm and humid with spikes of heat and brief cooldowns and storms firing routinely. The park may need a week to dry out before approaching 90 but other warmer spots, including LGA may see 90s as soon as Jun 6th. So hang in there a 50 more hours and it should be right back to a more classic hazy humid and warm - hot before you know it. I think the GFS may be a bit too cloudy / wet Tue - Fri this week, we shall see. Here's hoping anyway

SnoSki14
Yea it looks very midsummery by next weekend. Upper 80s to low 90s with dewey conditions. Maybe some severe too? Hopefully the June heat signals more impressive heat for July. I'm hoping to see 100s at least once this year. One caveat is that the strongest ridging will be to our N/NE so it wouldn't surprise me if models picked up more onshore flow days as we got closer.

SnowGoose69
I think the 51 at Central Park might survive. Pretty good gap in the rain coming and this time of year it doesn’t take much even with a north to northeast CAA setup to get 3-4-5 degrees if you see the ceilings come up to 2-3,000 feet mid afternoon

Seeing new 12z 3K NAM, checking EC and HRRR PW and probable nwd moving low to w LI Sunday, won't surprise at iso 5-6" by Monday morning LI/CT. PWAT increases tomorrow in a developing southerly 850 jet, and TT increase to 50. Some of the guidance has small hail ALY CWA. So Sunday will see, I think, bigger totals in some spots of LI/CT than the amts recorded already. We definitely need the water. Have attached amounts that begin with the showers/storms late Wednesday the 26th through around 8AM today... several 4+ coastal Nj and I think anywhere 2.5 of greater has a chance to ~6" by Monday morning. Unless someone wants the topic, I'll leave it be... but LI/CT/coastal NJ... looking very good for at least isolated 2-3.5" additional Noon today-6A Monday, most of it Sunday, raising isolated totals to ~6". Later, Walt cant upload attachments for some reason: 1141A/wd
