I went on a small charter out of Maine a few years ago, there were 3 of us on the boat fishing and the captain did just that, we caught mackerel then caught some nice stripers, no 40-50 lbs but some nice one's nonetheless.

Was casting for stripers several times this weekend and came up empty. I don't think they're arrived in the Kennebec yet.  Others have started arriving so the stripers shouldn't be far behind.   It's pretty bountiful when they're running.  Hopefully by next weekend.

Eerily quiet on the south shore. Charter boats are running to billingsgate shoals in Wellfleet to find the fish

Once the alewives arrive, the stripers should not be far behind.

In my final attempt, I had a couple followers.  Not sure if they were stripers as one was only about 18", the other was about 24, maybe a little more

Something I always wanted to do

Not that expensive, there were 4 of us, drove up stayed at a nice Holiday Inn near the water, two days fishing including tip for first mate, total cost was $350. breakfast included at hotel so we just bought lunch and dinner or one day just one meal because we ate a little later and were full.

Co-worker from Waldoboro said yesterday they're up to the midcoast, though she and family didn't catch any bigger than 24", 4" short of the limit.

I have mostly been fishing largemouth recently but want to try going for stripers. I don’t have a boat so I would be fishing off the bank. I live in interior sema around the Foxborough area, what areas would you guys recommend I try for striper fishing?

I hit the canal a couple times when I was down there for my brother's wedding a couple years ago. Couldn't believe the crowds, I've never seen anything like it. Caught some nice fish though.

Anyone have a recommendation for a surf cast rod/reel combo? ....I have all boat gear currently but my friends boat motor burned a piston last week so it looks like it’s a no go this summer. I’m going to be staying in Point Judith in August and would like to give fishing from shore a go. Thanks

Nice Steve! I've been seeing a lot of stripers rooting around in the sandbar while paddle-boarding. Haven't managed to pull one in on the line yet.

No recommendations but hit Hazard Rocks in Narragansett and the Narrow River inlet just down the road from Judith. August is best at low light and cloudy days. The bait is silver and a white teaser

Talk to the folks at tackle shops near where you'll be fishing.  They usually offer useful advice.  (With the caveat that they make their living selling fishing stuff.)

Spent last week up in Pittsburg. Caught a handful of Lakers in the First CT Lake in the 18-22" range. The trophy section of the CT River is low, but fished well. The state stocked a ton of rainbows and bookies into that stretch last Friday. Only downside was more people than usual fishing the river, it was mobbed at times. No huge fish, but a fun trip.
