One thing to watch is a secondary cold front that will move through in the very late afternoon.    NAM Nest is most aggressive is actually generating a line of very gusty showers on the front.   The frontal passage itself will likely enhance the winds even further.

Just the person I was looking for. Yeah I've been looking at that as well. I'd think it could be interesting with >9C/km 0-3km lapse rates and a bit of inverted-v signatures showing up in soundings should a line or line segments form along the front.

Wind seems to be overperforming in the immediate DC metro so far and we haven't even hit the start time of the warning.

Yeah. IAD has gusted to 40kts so far. There already a few power outages with a few limbs/weak trees down in Fairfax county.

The wind warning just went into effect geez the one time we don't bust low on a wind event.

When we get effective sunshine during these high wind events it makes the process of mixing down the winds aloft very efficient. Going to be interesting to see what later this afternoon looks like.

I believe it.  That's right near me, and the winds have already been strong this morning.  I'd guess the peak gusts were close to 40.  Hoping the power stays on...

we've had one flicker so far, which made my heart skip a beat. working from home and power issues make me nervous. finding myself constantly saving my work today

The rattle of something flapping on the roof at work tells me the winds are def picking up.  Reminds me of the winds during Sandy.

yeah i can usually gauge how strong the wind is by how far the chairs on the deck slide around.

Velocity scans look pretty impressive on that radar activity coming over the mountains now. We will start to battle less mixing from the sun going down - but my guess is there's a good surge of wind damage with that precip.

LLLRs are currently around 9.5C/km in the region per SPC mesoscale analysis.
