CT Rain
That nrn stream s/w is sharper, and heights are pumped more over the east which is good. Step in the right direction anyways. Yup looks better than 18z
Mr Torchey
Don't be dissapointed if the NAM comes in east of the GFS and EURO; we have already seen positives from it. I agree Ray, I think its important to look at what the nam does the first 48 hours or so, to key in on any changes during this time period, as well as the srefs. Even more importantly is to line these up with current sat radar and wv to get a sense if its being realistic, looks spot on regarding real time. Boston-winter08
NAM and GFS much more in-line now (tho not completely)...NAM is really hanging back that southern-stream moisture ala GFS, key
CoastalWx
glad you guys jumped in there was an uncomfortable silence in here.. I shouldn't even be up. I sacrificed a lot of sleep lately..lol. Ryan can tackle the gfs.

CT Rain
Trough is sharper and it looks like some nice strong(er) energy diving down the backside of the trough. Much nicer look.

Boston-winter08
I really like the look of the NAM out to 36, much more northern stream involvement, as someone said

CoastalWx
The trough is still broad, I'd like to see it tighten up a bit, but we'll see what the second piece of energy does on the backside of the trough.

CoastalWx
those heights over us are kinda sucky...i would think it would have to be a late bloomer / hook-job to get it done I think it still looks a little disorganized, but we'll see what the stuff does on the backside. I'm not expecting anything major, just looking for a step in the right direction.
moneypitmike
Looks like the trough is neutral at 42z--faster.

Boston-winter08
NAM at 42 hr and the 18z GFS at 48 hr are almost identical except w/ the southern stream feature...NAM keeps it much further south and hung back (almost too far back)
40/70 Benchmark
Def. gonna be east of the GFS I think.

CoastalWx
Yeah check out the gfs..see that "line" of vorticity? That is due to speed shear. This means we have a strong jet diving on the backside of the trough. Strong jet on the backside of the trough means it will dig or carve to the south or southeast. You don't want the junky crap on the eastern side of the trough.
Boston-winter08
NAM is weird. yeah, really fizzles out most of the precip, only hope is for low development off NC for this run
CoastalWx
There is a ton of jet energy diving on the backside though. That's a good thing. More than 18z had.
OKpowdah
Lead s/w is killing us. Notice that is also a secondary maximum in the H5 spread on the SREF
