That's the issue in my mind.

And..it was "follow the science" when it suited a particular agenda.

Most MDs and PhD's that I know new exactly what the CDC is saying now. But the corporate media get their news from blue check twitter doctors.

Whether people realize it or nor, we've had a huge experiment with nice controls. Florida and Texas were the control and the null hypothesis turned out to be true. p>0.05.

To me, the number one, overriding thing that cause the mass hysteria, masking, closures, lockdowns and the overall mayhem was the idea of total asymptomatic spread. Was BS then, is BS now. The idea that 40-50% of all cases were being spread by people running around the population totally healthy that didn't know they had it was ludicrous. And any scientist/medical doctor who went along with that notion was/is a dishonest fool.

My biggest regret in all this, beyond keeping business shuttered, beyond the kids on Zoom for a year, was the nursing home carnage. That was a travesty of the highest order. That didn't need to happen on the scale that it did.

When you look at the 10 worst states in terms of deaths per million, it's a mix of Democrat and Republican led states, and presumably there was a wide range in policies between those states.

It's a good talking point to say that a looser approach is better, but clearly it didn't work so well in places like South Dakota and Alabama.

I'm also in the seafood business. I had a home delivery service for 5 months. We were expanding and then two things happened. Suburban house wives went back to the supermarket.  24 other people decided to get into the fresh food delivery service.

UPS/Fedex or was this handled by your company?

You can pick any snapshot in time and make any argument you wish. But you have to be blind and not see that lockdown states didn't do any better over the long haul than others. I said it back in April of 2020 on this board, the curve is what it is. Whether you delay the inevitable, or rip off the bandage.

Not interested in debating it with you honestly.

I was unemployed for a time during 2020.

Just paid my taxes.

I challenge anyone claiming it's easy to "live off the system" to pay their taxes today on time.

Big hit.

Not sure your point here? Sounds like there was a withholding issue.

Not as if unemployed people are taxed at a higher rate than employed people.

That's been a bad look for Brookline....for no reason whatsoever.

I'm surprised Cambridge and Somerville aren't right there with them.

Hopefully Cambridge will follow the states timeline. My company wouldn't take a dump unless Cambridge gave them permission. We had to buy the city off with all kinds of extorted money for pet projects just to get a permit for a new building a few years ago. I'm sure Boston is the same way.

Yeah, my wife and I were both on unemployment when furloughed for a time late last spring and early summer for the first time ever when furloughed... we had the opposite effect, this was the first year we got a refund.

We obviously had taxes taken out while on unemployment but then they waived taxes on up to $10k per person and we weren’t on unemployment/furlough long enough to go past 20k combined, so we got all the tax back from unemployment.

First tax refund in a while for us, even with owing for my photography side business.  I always owe because I don’t pay taxes on that income until I file.

Has business been getting somewhat back to normal for you guys?  When I have been dining out I have been trying to eat as much seafood as possible (since I am bad at prepping some of it)

Have a kid, we haven't owed since.     B)

This year was the first in three years that we are getting a refund.  Prior to the two years we paid, I had never owed, always got something back.  Weird. Kids definately make a difference.

My son did his taxes last night, basically on his own.  In prior years I eaither did it for him or helped him a bunch.  He had three jobs in 2020.  He got a much smaller refund than he anticipated so I looked.  His biggest employer didn't take out any taxes...lol.  So I said, "son, you are getting back everything you paid".

Thir fire department was always a hoot to deal with.  When I did haz waste we would occasionally have to do remote openings of outdated chemicals and their HASP would be intense.  Nice guys to work with but oof...

Their regs are tight. One of the women who works for me is the lab safety officer. She works with our EHS group. Dealing with the fire dept and the haz waste folks are tough. Worse than Boston, for sure.

That gasoline vid was from Mexico in 2020 just goes to show the depth of fake news

Stock footage is common practice in the media, there is no law against the news lying and fear porn sells.  Some of the recent footage of Indians in the street with oxygen tanks due to the Covid outbreak, was actually footage from an April 2020 Gas/Chemical leak.

Especially true when US media picks up Twitter posts from rando overseas accounts and runs the photos without check the veracity.

Basically an entire city that is an HOA.

Yes, basically.

Until Covid ran them out of business, there was a bar down Mass Ave called The People's Republik

I was walking down Mass Ave a couple years ago on my way to get something to eat. I saw a guy I work with coming out of this joint:

Yeah I’m reading on what Ginxy mentioned... sounds like most of that stuff is coming from Reddit.  I guess that’s where the gas/bag video first re-surfaced and it went viral. Then everyone takes Reddit at face value too... sounds like a lot of viral stuff that’s fake starts at Reddit.

Good place to be a white person and pretend you are plugged in to the social justice issues of the world while facing zero real impact from any of them.

Sounds like we need a good, reliable, and trustworthy state-run news media channel to get the facts straight without the hype.
