The problem arises with "private businesses" such as airlines, utilities, and media platforms for which the barrier to entry for competition is very steep and the government does very little to regulate, break-up monopolies, and lower barriers to entry. In fact, the government more often now protects these large businesses from competition and props them up with taxpayer dollars. It's basically the worst parts of socialism and capitalism out there right now.

For small stores and the local hotdog truck, your point is totally valid.

It still infuriates me that our money went to bailing out the airlines after they spent ten years using all their free cash flow to buy back their stock and get executive options packages in the money. They left nothing for a rainy day. We should've let them go bankrupt and restructure. The idea that we have a "free market" is a joke at this point.

Salt n vinegar wings at Hannaford's are the best.

1. Yes. I believe in science. If people aren't wearing masks in close proximity they are usually obnoxious assholes. If you don't at least wear a mask close to someone else, you're disrespectful.

2. I can't advise your kids to do anything. You have the choice to do whatever you want as a parent. I would follow CDC guidance and vaccinate them with Pfizer or Moderna and skip the classic vaccine types. They have been highly effective and haven't caused issues with people. Yes, children are new, but when anyone is eligible, I would follow guidance to get them vaccinated. I'm not a scientist and nether are you, so I follow what I'm told by thousands of doctors around the world. I mean, what else can we do.

I bet you followed Fauci

Oh the ski areas definitely dealt with this. I think the state was called daily with claims that ski areas weren't doing enough to enforce travel quarantines, social distancing in lift lines, mask wearing in lift lines, etc.  The state sent people quite a bit to ski areas to check procedures.  But yeah I don't know if I've heard of anyone claiming they were retaliated against for it.

I do see where you are going with that... so you fire an employee for performance and then they try to double back on you that it was retaliation for them saying you aren't doing enough to protect them from COVID exposure?  Similar to like if someone gets let go and then later claims they brought up sexual harassment concerns and were fired for it?

Yes, that's basically it. The difference is there is insurance to cover sexual harassment claims, and also tons of case law out there that sets a limit on damages and also makes certain clearly bogus claims pretty easy to get dismissed. There is no such case law for COVID and no insurance to cover claims. How do we even define "not wearing a mask properly"? Is it one mask or two? What if they were 5.5 feet away? What if everyone was vaccinated? People can very broadly state that they "feared for their personal health" and such a statement carries enormous weight at this point. I mean, in fairness, we have had plenty of media figures literally say not following COVID protocols is akin to murder... this stuff trickles into the legal system. I have seen this first hand now and it sucks.

Just went and got a haircut and barber had his vaccine card taped on the mirror in front of the chair. Asked me if I was vaccinated, which I am, and said I could take my mask off... Gladly did because getting a haircut with a mask on sucks.

I haven’t been wearing one at the barbers in a while.  My haircut takes under 5 minutes though. Lol.

It's even weirder to me to see people with masks on outside who I know have been vaccinated. That's a double whammy...it already has an extremely hard time spreading outdoors, but now you are also vaccinated and STILL wear one outside? Bizarre. But to each their own.

I'll carry one on me outside just in case I end up in some random group of people all within a couple feet of eachother (unlikely). But I mostly do it out of courtesy these days. Not out of fear of catching it or spreading it. I've been vaccinated for over 6 weeks now.

But for how long?

I’m all for them doing big business and making people happy. But I would not want to live next door to one of the large grow facilities.   Those stink. We drove by the one on 146 in...Sutton?... yesterday. With the Windows up in our car you could smell it.  There is a big one in Athol as well that reeks

All the CT people rolling in too.   Looking like it will be legalized here but won't go into effect until May 2022...classic CT giving money to other states for another year....reminds me of the no booze law that was here, we were the 2nd to last in the country to fold on that stupid law.

I can't believe the amount of business there one like 10 minutes from me does. Even when I pass it on a random weekday at like 2pm, it will have a decent amount of cars there and then on weekends it's frequently jam-packed. State must be cranking 50-100 mil in revenue per year off the sales tax on that.

The creativity in the names and sub genres are awesome too.  And I can’t believe it isn’t legal in NH.   That won’t last.

Yeah MA took forever to get rid of their sunday blue liquor laws....I think as recently as like '04 or '05 you couldn't buy on a sunday. The finally got rid of it....but they kept strict hours on Sundays until less than 10 years ago when they finally allowed the stores to open before noontime on Sundays.
