Was it 2013 or 2014 when Christmas was warmer than July 4??

Must have had some good winds overnight, lots of leaf debris and small branches all over the neighborhood. 48F

A tad gusty but nothing major....probably the weight of cicadas gave tree limbs a hard time.

47F / drizzle

Couldn't find that in the last 20 years, at least in Philly, but 2015 wasn't too far off.  I remember something like this as well, but it must have been another date.

So far am up to 0.86" of rain today (1.90" event total).  My "high" for the day is 50 so far, but that was just after midnight, so will see if I even manage to hit it again before the day is out.  I usually have my overwintering tender tropical plants back outside by now but they don't like night temps below the mid-50s and I can only imagine what they would think about "day" temps not even reaching that. :o

Currently 49, overcast and misty.

Family member was not happy wanted to know why they had to bring in their plants, which number like a small rain forest inside when it should be summer

How impressive is today (if we can hold in the 40's till midnight) within our current warming phase of climate change that we can somehow have the coldest day so late in the season....ever.... by not just a couple of days but by more than 2 weeks in the last 129 years of NWS records in the philly burbs....

Extremes will always happen.  Records are made to be broken.  All of this does not change the fact the earth is warming

There's no doubt about this, slowly but surely. Probably in 50 yrs average highs will have increased by several degrees which makes for nightmare winters. Glad I'll be worm food by then...

I have a couple plumerias, a stephanotis, a hibiscus, and a coffee arabica that would not appreciate those temps.  I probably could have put my citrus and figs out because they are more subtropical and could do those temps, but they're not acclimatized to that at the moment. ;)

Looks like most of the sites got their RERs -

From April 8th...lol

46F / light rain

For most of my life, it's almost always been cool and/or rainy around Memorial Day weekend (no matter what day the actual holiday came on and regardless of whether there was some heatwave or above average temps before or after).  There were the rare few years with some of the weekend days that had weather that was decent (I think last year was one of those times), but more often than not as a kid, we would go out on our back covered patio with the grill due to rain or threat of rain.

Of course July 4 was almost always the polar opposite.  Pretty much guaranteed to be hazy, hot, and humid (with a few years when it was actually "nice" ).  Am guessing it's the climatology of the month (based on sun angles).

Am currently at 48 and up to 0.20" in the bucket this morning.  Looks like that potential for a record low max for PHL for today might be do-able.

Of course with the warming we have also been getting snowier....so maybe it will work out for winter weather fans. That said I expect the next cooling cycle to begin during the 2030's which should last into the 2060's before starting the next warming cycle....but I won't be here by then
