OrdIowPitMsp
Fresh snow and a high temp in the low 20s today. Probably the last hurrah of “deep winter” around here. The pup is sure going to miss playing out on the frozen lake. With temps in the 40s this week the ice will be getting unsafe rather soon.
Cary67
Remnants of the lion still hanging around. Winter stays long this far north.lol 1

This creates a feedback cycle in which the snow cover is melted far slower than in reality due to the phantom snow cover influence keeping temps cooler and the cooler temps not allowing the snow to fully melt. Very easy to see this in action on the 00z NAM via Pivotal Weather. Just compare the model snow depth to the modeled 2m temps. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk Continuing this thought, todays 12z NAM has high temps(21z) here for the next 4 days of 33, 33, 33 and 32. hawkeye_wx
I'm curious to see how high the temperature here gets today. The wind has switched to the south, but several models still keep us in the mid 30s. The Euro says 42º. DVN says 44º.

OrdIowPitMsp
46 and full sun today. Worked in a t-shirt during peak heating outdoors. Starting to see a big difference in mostly bare south facing sun drenched lawns vs. deep snow cover on north facing shaded lawns.

hawkeye_wx
The Cedar Rapids airport, still out in the reflective snow field in between CR and Iowa City, is only in the mid 40s, but here in the city we've hit the low 50s for the first time this season. cyclone77
Only 47 here today, DVN with 46. MLI was 11-12 degrees warmer with 58 where there's apparently no snow. Still 5-6" here. Didn't budge much even with the mid 40s today.

OrdIowPitMsp
Tagged 50 briefly yesterday. Touch cooler today but the mid 40s and full sun still doing work on the snowpack. Down to 3" depth officially but lots of bare spots starting to show up.

C’mon Hoosier we know the real reason you posted this you are itching for 1936 Just checked out the snow cover and it looks like by late next week there will be no snow on the ground in most of the Midwest and Great Lakes. Even most of southern Ontario and parts of Northern Ontario will have little to no snow on the ground (aside from a few areas in Muskoka and around the shores of Lake Superior)
fluoronium
NWS point and click gives me 50's and 60's throughout the whole forecast. The previous few days have been great as well. What a nice change for early March compared to recent years!
hawkeye_wx
Officially, the snow here is gone. There is obviously still some scattered snow, plus the piles, but green is quickly expanding. My measuring spot had 18", now 0. Visible satellite still shows white in rural areas all around Cedar Rapids. The next two days should get rid of all of it.
