I distinctly remember in 2004 near Columbia I was in the woods and during a sunny day it felt like a very light drizzle under the tree canopy. The trees sound alive! They are ascending the trunks like armies. It's definitely going to be getting louder! Also can't believe the number of stag (beetles), slugs and earthworms out on this dry night. Firefly numbers going up too. BlizzardNole Posted May 24, 2021 Share Posted May 24, 2021 I have three 40-50 foot maples in my back yard and my next-door neighbor has a 50-foot pin oak. I have no cicadas while they have shells all over the trunk of that tree, their deck, fence, etc. I also sat out yesterday and saw cicadas flying towards their tree one after another, like it was an airport. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Stormfly Posted May 25, 2021 Share Posted May 25, 2021 Temp hasn't moved much but it has gotten considerably brighter in the past 15 minutes. Went from no noise to considerable humming. I guess it's more rain than temperature that curbs their activity.
