The Sox home opener was snowed out that April. And the opener was nearly snowed out a 2nd time. The snow started shortly after the game. I remember that....to be honest, its too bad that whole season wasn't snowed out. There was all of this hype after they had signed Canseco's juice laden corpse coming off of the surprise AL East crown in 1995....."Think pitchers will pitch around Mo (Vaughn) this year....NO WAY, JOSE". Then they proceeded to get off to like a 6-20 start, as Canseco clutched for his back with each swing and miss, and the rest was unfortunate history. Concluded as we watched Boggs' fake hair rustle in the wind, as rode he a horse in celebration of the start of a dynasty in the Bronx-

Every month had above normal snow with good events in November and December, the epic snows of late January which kept on giving. Not to mention the widespread huge event in January of 2005. Feb 2005, like 1996, was kind of a let down, though probably still managed above normal snow. December and April is what separated 1996 from 2005. Crazy guy lived 21 years, so maybe he was on to something. I had two yellow labs, when I opened the door and they saw snow they bolted no matter how deep, in fact the deeper is was they liked better.

Kevin Kennedy was the manager and he liked to hear himself talk, much in the way the current manager does. Kennedy was only in his early 40's when the Sox fired him but he was never able to land another managing job. Every time I think of the 96 Sox the first name that comes to mind is Kevin Mitchell...........

One more off topic nitpick on Ray's post....Canseco was already on the '95 division winning team (and played great in the regular season). Who could forget the absolute wrath he and Mo Vaughn took for going 0-for-the-series against Cleveland in the playoffs.

It was a pretty weak signal on the ensembles, so not overly optimistic on that one even accounting for the lead time. But you always have to watch out in March for stuff that doesn't show up right away. Model accuracy starts to decrease as wavelengths shorten. I remember Mitchell, too....all 300lbs of him, at that point. Sox in the 80's and 90's loved signing FA stars after rigor mortis had already set in. Jack Clark, Otis Nixon, Andrew Dawson, Frankie Viola, Rob Deer, Nick Esasky, Canseco and Mitchell, etc. Usually sluggers....

I remember the exact moment that it let up, too. I was on a computer in the UML library on south campus when I realized that the forecast 6-10" wasn't happening, and the rain started falling. We had like 30” during that 3 week stretch.
CoastalWx
We actually missed the storm that happened to dump on the cape on 2/25/05. I think I had maybe 5-6” and they had over a foot I think or close to it there. Made up though a few days later, but Feb was a quieter stretch overall.
