jm1220
Tough forecast coming for Denver. Models like the NAM really don’t have much there and the snow goes well north into WY, but the GFS has a lot more. Could be the difference between something really significant like 18+ or barely a warning event on the Nam there.

donsutherland1
51 minutes ago, LibertyBell said: how did we get so hot in March 1990 without a higher AO? The AO played a prominent role. For February, the AO averaged +3.440. For March, it averaged +2.990. February closed with a very strong AO+ regime (+5.911 on February 26) and the AO remained strongly positive through March 30. A strong PNA- pattern developed after the first week of March and this could have been the trigger for the sequence of events that culminated in the exceptional warmth that occurred near mid-March. Overall, the exceptional heat occurred within an enduring pattern that favored above to much above normal temperatures with only short breaks of colder weather (2/25-3/9 cool period but a smaller number of days with much below normal temperatures). Can’t complain with a widespread 12-18” event for the NYC area and 24-30” in N NJ along with several other significant events. I’d have to give this winter a solid B/B+. The bad January keeps it from being an A, and generally this was an above average snow winter but not massively so (out in the Allentown area different story). I have about 40” on the nose which is probably 8” above average. 2

crossbowftw3
Very good winter overall and those of us inland have maybe 1-2 more shots to push us AN for the season. Still wonder what could have been if the death band was 70 miles south on 12/16-17.
