Flyers coming up on Sunday in beautiful tahoe kind of inspired this thread but overall lots going on in Philly sports.

Wentz gone. Desean gone. Good riddance to both imo...

Sixers in 1st place. Embiid for MVP!

Flyers generally beating everyone not named Boston.

95 is forever under construction.

Discuss here.

I am a 4-4 guy, but 76ers have always been #1 mostly because basketball was the sport i played growing up....I think this team has a legit shot at going to the finals. If they can lock up homecourt it is going to be very hard for any team to beat us here. Now as for wnning the finals, ehh. Need more pieces for that.

Same here, I'm 4 for 4 as well, except I'm 50-50 Phillies/Braves as odd as that is...  Basketball has always been my #4 sport though because it was the only sport I didn't play as a kid. I usually would watch 20-25 reg season games but didn't really pay attention until playoffs when I would hop on the bandwagon. Embiid has changed that though. I watch every game he plays now because he is just such a rare talent. Plus his personality is just amazing. For example last night he said this about doing his signature pose even with no fans:

“Fans are always there for me when I play, and I always mention that,” he said. “Playing in Philly, I have a lot of pride, and I play for the fans and I play for the city. All my goals when it comes to basketball are related to the city of Philadelphia. I always feel like they’re here with us, even though they’re not. I always feel their presence.”

Like how don't you just love the guy? :wub:

I think they have a legit shot as well because of him. And if Ben can play like he did when Joel was out the other night, the sky is the limit imo with this team. Whoever comes out the west is going to be tough though if they make it. I think they add a shooter or two at the deadline to make a run. Bring back JJ!

Been playing ice hockey my whole life, been waiting to see the Flyers win the cup my whole life too haha.  I was at the game when the Phantoms won the Calder Cup in 05 though

I played a little when I was younger, but not so much as a youngster. It was the Flyers who got me and a lot of others interested. I was around for the 1974 Stanley Cup, and it was just awesome. Philly sports in general had been on a bad run for years, and they captured lightning in a bottle. People (not Flyers fans, lol) make a big deal out of the Broad Street bullies aspect,  but they had talent.

I remember leaving a Phillies game during the Flyers playoffs, and everyone was singing "B-B-B-Bernie and the nets" to the tune of Elton John's "Bennie and the Jets", such a good time. People in Philly knew they had something special, but I think elsewhere people were surprised that they won. I was in Montreal during the summer and people told me they were rooting for the Flyers after Montreal got knocked out, probably cuz they didn't want the Bruins to win, lol.

That was the beginning of a nice run for our teams culminating in 1980 when all 4 teams made it to their respective championships. 2 out of 4 that year wasn't bad, although I was still heartbroken when the Islanders beat the Flyers in game 7 on a goal that looked offsides.

P.S. Bernie was referring to Bernie Parent, who was one of the best goalies of his time. They won the 6th and deciding game against Boston 1-0 (at home!). I can still picture the winning goal, a shot from the point that dipped and Rick Macliesh had his stick down on the ice and tipped it up over the goalies shoulder. Lol, that's my trip down memory lane, thanks for the inspiration!

I'm 25, born in March 95.  I played for the Valley Forge Minutemen, and West Chester Quakers growing up.  My dad was my assistant coach my whole life but unfortunately he passed away from a heart attack on the ice at Oaks in 2012.  He was only 46, bad genes suck!

Nah, it was 1/4, Phillies.

Sixers lost to Lakers

Eagles lost to Raiders

Flyers lost to Islanders

I was pissed we didn't win more...

My cousins son is a minuteman!

I've always have been a golf fan, Justin Rose and Sean O'hair are some of the hometown favorites around here. Do we have any other golfers on here?

I've always like Philly sports, I'm probably most partial to the Eagles, The Phillies are my NL team and I dont follow the NBA or Hockey very much.

True story but when the Flyer's won that first Stanley Cup, they briefly had it displayed in the lobby of one of the old bank buildings downtown, and I dragged my sister there to go see it after school one day (we were going to school downtown at the time).

Bernie Parent, Bobby Clarke, Dave Schultz, Barry Ashbee...and Kate Smith singing the national anthem at the games.  When Barry Ashbee had his eye injury, he was eventually admitted to Wills Eye Hospital, their original old building (now apartments I think) being right next door (an alley separated the buildings) to where I was in school (Masterman).  Me and my classmates used to yell his name out the window across the alley while he was there...  Yes, that was junior high.  Buncha nuts. :lmao:

Very sorry to hear about your dad man, that's really awful... My dad is one of my best friends and was my coach too until I made it to Jr. C.  He had a major heart attack at 40 too(we were playing paintball)but thankfully he survived. To this day, it's still the scariest moment of my life so far because he was in really good shape so it was a shock to see him like that. Like you said bad genes suck! I hope time has made things a bit easier for you though.

I'm just a few years older than you, I'm a super late 1990 and I played for Pennsbury in high school, Warwick Wildcats, and Tristate Selects(Now the Philadelphia Revolution). The rink at West Chester was one of my favorites to play. Made the rinks I played at look like a dump

Golfer checking in! Just got my email that my central jersey men's league is starting up first week of April, we had to take last year off so I'm hype to get back on the course! We rotate playing the mercer county courses each week.

My favorite pro's are Phil and Bubba because I'm a lefty. I also really like Brooks though, he's a baller and brings a swagger to the game that hasn't really been seen in awhile.

Next fall I’m planning to move to Worcester MA whereabouts from November to March. If anyone else is interested looking for a place and rooming let me know! Obviously gotta take time during summer to find some work up there, but it’s been a dream of mine since I was a 13 yr old weenie so...

Worcester for a snow lover like you is the place to be IMHO!

Sports wise I am a life long 4 for 4 guy but nothing in Philly ever matches the passion this town has for the Phillies and baseball. Good or bad teams they are always not only high up in actual MLB attendance at games.... but every friggin year the Phillies are at the top of local TV ratings. The Phillies by a large margin crush both the Sixers and Flyers when it comes to TV ratings on NBC Sports Philly - the Phillies are the major entity that keep that channel going with top time slot rated live games over 150 times a year that represent the channels highest rated events. Now I always have folks that tell me - jeez the Eagles sell 70k seats a game.....but of course that is for only 8 games a year. Now,  if in any year if the Phillies only had 8 home games -  how tough a ticket would that be to get?  Heck they have the longest sell out streak in National League History with 257 straight sell outs with a 46,000 seat stadium from July 7, 2009 through August 6, 2012.  Now why do I think Baseball is the best sport of the major 4? It's because it feeds us almost every night for 6 straight months.....the other sports can't match that. Now I suspect I will hear loudly from the baseball is boring crowd.....I get it....it takes an investment and it why it is called the "thinking man/woman's game" As Mark Twain said " to know America is to know baseball"

That has always been a dream of mine to experience a true new England winter ever since my aunt and uncle moved up to Keene, NH. I go up there for two weeks every winter(except this year) to ski and do other winter activities and I love everything about up there. If I didn't have a state job, I would definitely be interested because I'm probably going to put my house on the market this summer even though I just bought it last year...  The housing market here in Mercer county has been insane to the point where I'd be dumb not to sell soon... But unfortunately I still have to live in new jersey or PA that's within a hour of Trenton because I go into the office twice a week. I'm looking at Mt Olive or somewhere similar that has roughly 1000 ft elevation and averages 40-50" a year. Any suggestions for snowiest place in NJ or Pa to move that fits that criteria?

Have you seen Ken Burns Baseball? One of my favorite sports documentaries.. I have been re watching it this past week to get ready for the season.

Pm Walt Drag from nyc forum. Pretty sure he lives somewhere near the tip of NNJ that seemingly gets crushed non stop. I def liked the area during the time I stayed on my chase to Dover NJ.

Just about every sportsbook I look at have the Phils finishing 4th in the division, Nationals 3rd and Marlins last. Mets/Braves flip flopping for 1st. Many have the Phils with 81-82 wins which is .500 ball. I see very little chance winning the division but with a couple nice bounces and 87+ wins they could sneak in a wildcard spot.

I might be wrong but I think it's a joke the mets are up there with the Braves. The Braves have a better line up and better pitching, they're clearly the class of the division. Think the Phils/mets/nats are all in that next tier but honestly I see the mets 4th. Phils were a decent team last year besides their bullpen. If the pen is just average this year, I think they'll cruise to 2nd and fight with the braves.

I agree, don't know why the Mets are rated so high on all the sportsbooks? Maybe we are missing something? Even WIP was wondering what's so great about the Mets.

Even if the Phils BP is a "little better" that will equal a couple more wins because they really sucked and blew so many games last year....

They improved their pitching and their hitting but their pen is still trash  unless Diaz has a great year as the closer.

My late husband and I hosted 1pm Eagles games since the 80’s.  So glad I was able to be at a parade during my lifetime.

Hockey would be my 2nd favorite with playoff hockey being an absolute thriller!  Down 0-3 w/Boston came back won the conference only to lose to the Hawks in the cup series. Also was in Pittsburgh one year during a playoff series with them. Always fun to were the Philly gear at an away game.

I love our ballpark.  I enjoy being there rather than watching in TV.

The pandemic has greatly affected my sports following.  Hoping that changes soon.

My older sister would go to clubs/bars in NJ during the 70s are see Flyer players hanging out like normal people. No big deal, just hanging out.

NHL players are by far the coolest most down to earth of the 4 major sports....
