ErinInTheSky
How about that NAM though? 4ths torm this season it's sussed out that sleet line even while the globals were insisting otherwise.

If this just goes dry fast, then the sleet bomb ice storm will have been for naught. 3+" of sleet will be really fun. Roads are already caved here. It'll look like snow but it'll stay around forever, esp after the freezing rain gets to it. I am not making this up, it looks like heavy rain and mixed with sleet!! the ground is covered but i am not sure if it is all sleet though!
MDScot
Heavy pingers in G'burg, 26 deg. Will this year be record ratio of snow forecast to snow measured for the DC area?
SchvoniWx
Don't you love it when it's below 26°F on the ground and it starts snowing and then as soon as precip rates speed up and you get excited for the incoming accumulating snow, it switches to RAIN. Why does the mid-Atlantic hate us so much?

I don't think most people in the metro area are going to be upset or shocked if they get snow. A true forum divider is when DC is raining and Clarksburg or Columbia get 10 inches. They really need their own sub forum up there lol

Steve25
Not going to be picky. Winter storm is a winter storm. Honestly, an ice bombs justifies my decision to take off today more than snow would have. Haven't ever really experienced a sleet/freezing rain storm before, so something to remember. Let's go!

I don't really think its a bust -- ... But just more evidence that meteorologists who communicate with the public probably should revert back to how it was in the 80s and 90s -- when weather professionals would rarely talk about possible accumulations until the day before the storm hits,. Putting out public snow maps two or three days ahead of time, seems to just set up unrealistic expectations and can cause more confusion than it helps.
