Starting to get impressive out there. Icicles have connected with the ground under my wifes car. My truck sits much higher but even those icicles are trying to connect. Street is crust covered. Not bad for daytime zr/sleet in mid Feb

That's why im sad about the disaster on Tuesday. How did we lose our 13 degree cushion

Digital cushions are weak AF. One accidental ctrl+alt+delete and it's over

It’s hard to believe that we even suck at freezing rain ice accumulation. I’m ready for spring

Same here. It's not like it's 31 and raining hard. It's been 27-29 and lightly raining/mixing all day and the tree branches here aren't sagging, nor is the untreated sidewalk anything but wet. Seems impossible.

Just took a walk with the dog.  Sidewalks greasy but not slippery, if that distinction makes sense.  There is a glaze on all elevated surfaces, but nothing significant.  Maybe 1/8”.  This would have been a big deal if it happened overnight.

29.2

This 100%. Snowcover helped, but transpose this forward 6-9 hours and throw in some slightly lower ground temps and it would be way worse. It's very close as it is, but accretion efficiency wasn't quite there for a big dog ice storm.

I guess what do the next 12 hours look like? Light drizzle and more precipitation to the south should add more accretion, right?

I’m worried we’re calling it over before it’s over.

Honestly lol. Today made me realize that even with 27 degree temperatures and a light rain, we still suck at winter.

0 accretion on trees and leaves in Germantown. I had PUDDLES! At 27 degrees! lol.

28 with light zr still falling.

Looks like Mount Holly was close to going with ISW here...

We`ve increased the planar ice accumulation totals up to near 0.25" which is bordering on ice storm warning conditions. We`ve opted not to issue an ice storm warning mainly due to the impacts we were not seeing earlier combined with a look at the road/sub surface temps.

Just before 5 PM, I measured about 0.2" of icy accumulation in Arlington, of which half was sleet and half frozen rain , all frozen together in a sheet on my car. I didn't dare go further out to measure my driveway, too icy.

My bushes have ICICLES!

Probably the right call, at .25" here, no road issues.  If this would have come at night it would have been a completely different story.
