6:45 obs  and travelogue

in Baltimore now and no snow and dry pavement and 36

Left GREENBELT at 35 6pm and light to moderate snow.  Got to Laurel and it became heavy to very heavy and was accumulating on sides of BW Pkwy and swirling around on travel part and temp dropped to 33.5.

so looks like best evap takes temps down about 2.5 and hope we can get another degree or two out of that later?

Just got home from work.  On the drive from Dulles to home just outside of Vienna I encountered sn, sleet, rain and graupel.  Temp went from 36 near Dulles to 32 at home.  (The thermometer in our car is pretty accurate).  Driveway and sideway at home is starting to cave and the street is about to start.

6:45pm Columbia, just in from walk. Pouring a cold, wet snow, lots of fine flakes — but coming down. Grass has a white film now. Will be covered white in 10 mins. Cartops about 1/2 covered, snow hasn’t been going good all that long. High 40.7, now 35.1 altho one seldom-used thermometer mysteriously says 33.

I actually feel like I'm in a pretty good spot for the pre-first wave. Mostly snow now

This isn't really the pre wave anymore. It's just going to continue streaming across the mountains like this until it looks like that first batch is catching up. This is the beginning of the 'coastal' kicking in. (Kind of just a good fetch off the Atlantic.)

It’s been a pretty wet storm here already.  Steady rates for a while now.  Solid coating.  If it were 5 degrees colder I bet I’d have 1.5-2 inches.

Yeah same. Definitely pleased with what I see so far though. It's going to be a matter of whether 850s blast up from the south...

Moderate snow, vacillating between 33-34.

18z Euro is pretty wet....10:1....I think DC thermals are borderline for part of the storm, so maybe some sleet

I think north of a line from Winchester to Columbia could do really well tonight.  South of that is more dicey...a couple/few inches not out of the question, but could be sleety at times and probably a little less wet
