For whatever reason the 700mbar frontogenesis band, that is responsible for delivering our precip out ahead of the heaviest rates with the 850mbar frontogenesis in the evening, was a lot weaker and slower that run. This is it and it's precip response from the good 06z run this morning valid 2pm tomorrow:EF057408-B575-406D-A75E-4EAC402024ED.thumb.png.f05c3dc425317a497a43cf7bb24208d8.png640A4AF9-6569-4253-B6AB-D6A343211B58.thumb.png.5b684511741409e364cc7eb7846d70d5.png

And this is the same timestamp on the latest run:FAB145CB-1BC9-41C6-8496-3BBAE176D2A9.thumb.png.ece9d044200bce86135ce7d075bcef34.png18939BC0-8D1B-4A79-83DE-5BE45A235494.thumb.png.9667ce65fe651c8d599e3774efca0762.png

As @burrel2 said this is the crucial part of the storm, not the warm nose. This earlier onset and more QPF ahead of the best forcing and rates would help cool the column and have us primed and ready to accumulate snow immediately once the best rates arrived in the evening. Without it the whole thing is screwed up.

@wncsnow pretty bullish for you!

The storm in early January that busted they had me in 4 to 6. I got .75. The last storm a week ago was saved with that warm front band but they still forecasted more than what fell. It sucks being under a winter storm warning and having bare ground the next afternoon.

RGEM isn't that good here, misses us with the heaviest front end precip. Not many models are showing legit warning criteria except for higher elevations north of 40 and in VA

Puts 1-1.5" in my back yard. I would take it here given how this winter is. I'm in Hoscton, GA

The footprint of snow lines up pretty well when comparing the NAM and RGEM. The Nam is more robost with the snow totals from N.NC through VA. One big difference is the RGEM is showing heavier totals in the upstate. That heavier totals in the upstate also line up with the greater accumulations that were show on the RAP model earlier.
