My fiancee's dad lives in San Antonio. They have a low of 11 forecast for Monday night, but then back up to 57 by Friday. We won't be seeing that until April...if we're lucky. :axe:

Only three years since 2000 have we not hit 57 by the end of March, and in those 3 years we got it in the first week of April.  Some warmer stretches will be here before you know it

Another day with a high below zero at -2. Now at over 50 hours below zero and looks like we might add another couple days to the streak.

Looks like you will be in the 30s next weekend. That will feel balmy.

.CLIMATE... Issued at 314 AM CST Sat Feb 13 2021 The current forecast holds highs at MSP below 0F through Monday. If this happens, it would result in a stretch of 4 consecutive days that MSP failed to get above 0F (with a high of +1F on Thursday the only thing keeping it from being a stretch of 5 days!). This would be the first time since 1989 we`ve had a stretch of at least 4 days that failed to get above 0F and the first such stretch in February since 1936. Since 2000, we`ve only achieved stretches of 3 consecutive sub-zero highs in a row twice, in January`s of 2009 and 2019. Another impressive streak we have going now are days in a row with highs less than +10F. At the moment, that streak stands at 7 and we currently don`t have a double digit high forecast until Wednesday. So if we make it all the way through Tuesday staying colder than 10F, that would push this streak out to 11 days in a row, which would be the first time we`ve had at least 10 consecutive days with highs less than 10F since 1974. The record stretch is 15 days in a row that happened in 1974, 1936, 1912, and 1899. So we are definitely getting out into rarefied air with the longevity of this cold snap. Lastly, for MSP, there has not been a record low set in a winter month (Dec, Jan, and Feb) since December 26, 1996, with February 2, 1996 being the most recent record low in February. The record lows Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday are -25F, -25F, and -26F respectively. Right now, it looks like we`ll be close, but not quite to those levels. Our best chance at a record low will probably come Sunday morning, as continued winds should help keep the urban heat island mixed out. For Sunday night and Monday night, we`ll have the high overhead, which means we`ll be decoupled and there will be nothing to stop the urban heat island from flexing its muscles, though it will be something to keep an eye on.

^ Wow, impressive cold in MN. The -50 could be close to the coldest MN temp on record so late in the season. And the -35 at Duluth is probably close to their all-time record, as they usually get some moderation from Lake Superior.

Only hit -8 here this morning, even with a good radiational cooling set up. Cleared out right after sunset yesterday, 16” snow cover. We just don’t radiate well here, and it probably didn’t help to be on the far southern edge of the arctic air mass. This cold snap will be remembered for longevity here, not the extremes. Was hoping we could pull off a -15 or -20, but the coldest was -10 early on in the outbreak.

Officially got down to -18 at the airport and -20 at the nws office.

much more impressive is the cold up north. -50 outside of Ely is a new state record for 2/13 and how about Duluth going down to -35

Yeah it's pretty damn cold up here. Furnace kicks on every 5-10 minutes depending on the wind. Wind sucks the cold right out of my house. Been a while since we've had a stretch of cold like this, especially in mid Feb. These stretches are more normal for Jan into early Feb.

Oh, BTW, this is the 3rd coldest Feb min on record in Duluth. -39 2/2/96 and -36 2/9/1899 are the top two.

...aaaaaand were STILL looking at lows in the single digits through the end of next week. :axe:

Yeah. Since snowpack and cold temps are mutually reinforcing, the next several weeks will be yearning for sunshine.

waiting for the official number but looks like we got down to -12 or -13 this morning.  Just short of the record again.  We just had the 7th coldest first half of February for MSN.  Looking forward to the slow climb out of this now.  The cold has overstayed its welcome.

For me it had already overstayed its welcome when it first showed up on the GFS and Euro inside of "probably a mirage" range.
