This discussion brings back memories of using Netscape navigator in the high school library in 1998. One webpage took 2 minutes to load and it was just text.

There was no Google. The existing search at the time was really terrible and you couldn’t find anything. You would search for something school related and get search results for viagra.

Google was really amazing when it first started

When I was young, before the cable came to our area, we could pick up one TV channel clearly: WJAC channel 6 from Johnstown, PA.  It was an NBC affiliate.
We also had a party line telephone.  It rang all the time, but only some of those calls were for us.  If you picked up the phone you could hear others’ conversations.  If you needed to make a call, you could ask the others to relinquish the line.  Sometimes they did.  A lot of times they didn’t.

Lol.  I remember well.  We had a couple of elderly women who lived down the road.  They were the embodiment of the gossiping gaggle....think of the front desk woman at the Columbia Inn in White Christmas....always on the line talking.  My older brother and sister would put me up to getting them off the line.  Once i told them our barn was on fire and needed to call the fire department to clear the line.

In those days you could call the local radio station for lost pets, items, song requests with messages, etc.andvthey would announce on air.  Me and my best friend would phone-in (funny?) pranks to WFTR in Front Royal and howl aloud when they read them on air.  Our best was my lost cow alert.....  Brown and white, silver bells around it's neck, one horn, and from neighbors report it hopped the fence and was heading west towards town.  We laughed for days after that one was announced.  Several kids at school the next Monday were talking about hearing that on the radio.  Lol.  That was a different time.

I had never heard of such a thing. Thanks for explaining.

I’m preparing myself for the day when I’ll have to explain all of the old school technology to the kids.

Explaining Blockbuster and dial up internet will be hilarious

Or sometimes when taking a "private call" meant stretching the phone with the longest cord, whether it was phone to the wall, handset to the main set, or a combination of both, as far as you could and calling out the click when someone else got on the line.

Then there was that rotary dial thing.

Those effing cords never ever broke lol. Just took incredible abuse . Nowadays phone charging cords last a month

Cordless in the early 80s changed everything.  Except you would break the antenna within a month. And you'd have to put aluminum foil on the nub just to get reception.

Yep, we called in from two different numbers with 6 different people asking the DJ to play Barracuda one night, he (the DJ) got quite ticked off....

The last 24 hours of banter has been quite strange...can we get back to strictly beer posts please lol

We spent yesterday afternoon up at Independent Brewery in Bel Air. I can’t wait for things to get back to normal so they can use the Funk House for its original intention, making funky sours. Great afternoon though and we are really glad we got outdoors for the 8 hours it hasn’t been raining.

Been there a few times. Nice spot. Currently at Key. Only customers in here outside of the employees playing Nintendo and getting wasted off their own beer

I was born in early 1960s and raised in a small town in Southwest VA. Since there was no internet, we interacted by cruising through town. Uptown and then downtown and do it over and over again and again. Businesses allowed you to park in their parking lots after they closed and crowds of people would gather and socialize in different parking lots and watch as others cruise by. People took pride in their rides—washed and waxed and lots of hot rods. Gas was like $0.35 for low test and $0.38 high test. There was no unleaded.

I was at Key about a month ago. Good stuff.

Yeah, they were supposed to have a chocolate raspberry nitro stout on tap but apparently sold out in one day (yesterday) so master brewer let us try next weekends release which is a Belgian quad with tart cherry. Not bad

That choco-rasp sounds absolutely amazing...and I'm not surprised it would sell out that quickly. Almost beer o'clock here, and here's what's on deck first today from two of my favorite breweries:

I Honestly remember using a unix prompt to surf the web without and graphics back in college.   I want to megadeth.com and they had characters spelling the name out as the text was loading.

Do you remember that #1 North used to be called Lippy's.  It was like your old corner store with a meat counter and all.  I played a ton of Ms. Pac Man there and used to buy packs of baseball/football cards when they were 25 cents and had a stick of gum.    There was also a gas station (now some sort of sap) next to millers where they had BattleTank.
