wrb129
Was able to schedule my COVID vaccine at M&T Bank stadium! So happy. Shoutout the bot on Twitter that tweets when new vaccines are available. Trying for my father next. Can you share the Twitter name? I've been trying for my wife and I've gotten through 3 times only to have someone snag her selected time slot each time. I enjoyed them On a 12 inch black and white 7 channel tv. As far as my age, I was born before the middle of the last century. Quite a long time before the microscopic miracles joined, divided and eventually grew into the ‘dude’ you’ve become. As always ....

Cable must have been cheapo in Baltimore in the early mid 80s because our poor asses didn't have any doe . LOL. This was pretty much life growing up in the late 70s/early 80s in northcentral PA. Rabbit ears were the only way I got TV on the tiny 12" B/W TV in my bedroom. My parents got "basic" cable...which means that I had to go to a couple HS friends' house to see the "good" stuff like MTV, HBO, etc.
Stormfly
Anyone remember "SuperTV" from the early to mid 80s? WNUV (TV 54) would "scramble" their signal in the evening and show premium content. Subscribers would have a UHF directional installed connected to a Zenith decoder box that allowed watching. I was lucky to schedule one for me and my two relatives this morning. For Walgreens Type "Maryland" instead of a city and it will give better results. Also set up an account ahead of time for Walgreens. CVS if you get to the appointments screen it allows you to finish and won't kick you off like other sites do. Good Luck! When I was young, before the cable came to our area, we could pick up one TV channel clearly: WJAC channel 6 from Johnstown, PA. It was an NBC affiliate. We also had a party line telephone. It rang all the time, but only some of those calls were for us. If you picked up the phone you could hear others’ conversations. If you needed to make a call, you could ask the others to relinquish the line. Sometimes they did. A lot of times they didn’t.

That whole area was definitely easy going and behind the times. I remember getting pints of Yuengling for 50 or 75 cents on the regular. Williamsport is my hometown...and I bolded the key part of your quote, because it's spot on. I have always said Williamsport is a nice place to grow up and grow old but it IS one of the most beautiful areas of PA and even the country -- I still miss those mountains and the West Branch Susquehanna Valley. It's also a great place if you like more snow than we get in these parts -- they still do pretty well annually along that Williamsport-Mansfield stretch of Rt.15. We were a typical family though. It wasn’t until 1972 when a majority of the TV sets sold in the US were Color TVs. My folks bought one a year later, a 15” floor model, for $300.00. It was a big deal for us.
WVclimo
16 minutes ago, WxWatcher007 said: Party line telephone??? In rural areas where phone lines had not yet reached full penetration, party line service was offered as a subscription. These were lines that serviced anywhere from 5-20 households. Each subscriber had their own dedicated ring. At our house, one long ring followed by two short rings meant a call was coming for us. A neighbor would have a different ring sequence, so you didn’t answer those. Since it wasn’t a private line, if you picked up the phone you could listen to others’ conversations. Etiquette said that if you broke into the conversation to announce you had to make an urgent call, the other parties would wrap up their call.

I’m preparing myself for the day when I’ll have to explain all of the old school technology to the kids. Explaining Blockbuster and dial up internet will be hilarious In 1995, I dropped a couple grand on an HP Pavilion 5030 desktop “multimedia” computer. It featured an Intel Pentium 75MHz processor, 8MB RAM, and an 850MB hard drive. With the 14.4kbps dialup, it took about 10-12 minutes to load one model map. I remember waiting for hours late one night to see all the parameters on the ETA run leading up to the ‘96 blizzard.

I hit the rink anywhere from 2-3 days/nights per week, from the beginning of middle school right up until my mid-20s. This was actually great exercise...and it was a lot of fun getting stuck in the middle of the shuffle skate pack.
