getting some cumulus popping up here for the first time in a while.

wow

it looks like the CU is developing over non total snow covered (non farm fields) areas where it isn't a total white out

like urban area and wooded areas in river valleys

look at  the IL river valley now , CU developing over darker areas (woods) and moving SE, even its river tributaries like Vermillion and Kankakee

same for parts of Rock river

or I'm just imagining things?

edit: or maybe it's just urban areas. I can make out Peoria with CU streaming SE from it

I can also make out smaller cities I think like Lasalle and Ottawa

A few days late & a dollar short, but after leaving my phone in an Uber on Monday evening (got it back today), I couldn’t post a handful more pictures that my family sent me from Monday & Tuesday.

Great deep winter pictures Josh. Just shows how good Chicago has had it snow wise this month with the pictures that’s been coming out of there. Makes our winter wonderland look kinda weak. You decide where you’re going up north to yet?

Can't say im not jealous of Chicago, but I mean it looks absolutely fantastic here. They were kind of due but it's crazy how the city proper is ground zero over the burbs, rarely will see that happen anywhere let alone lakefront Chicago.

Just going to Gaylord area. Some family friends recently moved there so we are going to visit them and thencheck out some elk, which I've never done. Their snow depth is pretty much similar to ours lol.  Obviously if I went way up into the Keweenaw I would see more but just not worth it this year.

We've had quite a run of deep snow winters here, we've now had pack over a foot deep in..

30 dbz "cell" is missing just to my NW.  Stuck in the gap between bands.  Happens more than not this year.  Don't know why.  Hopefully it fills in at some point.  Any single one of these showers could drop an inch of fluff in 20 minutes.

It seems the western side of the lake has more Lake Effect then the Eastern side this year. That has to be a first.

Where I live there just isn't enough fetch to get an extreme event like what happened in Chicago.  Normal years have a lot of very light lake effect during cold periods.  It will snow 1" per day for a few days straight.  The better events are clippers that get bumped from a 3" event on the Wisconsin side to an 8" event here.  It happened repeatedly in 2014, but not this year.  :(

Been a long time since a good clipper pattern. Those are the best for us as well.

This right now is a very weak clipper-like system.  It's just not a very deep system.  Cloud tops at 8k feet max doesn't really do it, unless you're in a location where a band can park over you (which I'm not).  The better clipper fronts push the cloud layer up to 15-20k feet.

My loops from storms this month. I decided to make a 30-frame GFS surface loop from the whole last week because it was such a big cold wave and a big snowstorm for NW Ohio and snowy for many other areas.
