Back in 2017 we hit 70 degrees on the 17th.  That seems almost unfathomable with how cold it's been as of late.

We're about to pop to zero after 42 consecutive hours below zero.  Pretty impressive in January let alone mid February.

Almost strange not to have a mid January thaw. Became quite accustomed to the random 50+ day in January, usually snuck in a winter golf day.

As it’s going, Feb has a decent shot of having snowcover the entire month as well. If you had told me on the brown Christmas Day that 2021 would start white and I would make it to Valentine’s Day without seeing grass, I would not have believed you.

I hear that lol.  Yeah I was still planting trees on Dec 18th.  Things changed pretty fast after Christmas.

up to 70.4% of the country covered in snow.  Have a chance of passing that tomorrow, depending on how much melting(if any) occurs in Texas

Got slightly higher today with 73.6% snow coverage.  Thinking this should be the max

Snow depth as of 6am is 21” at ORD and 24” at MDW.

.

That MDW value has to be near/in the top 5 all-time no?

By my personal tally the city proper has received more than 40” of snow in the last 22 days; official ORD total is a smidge over 36” for that time frame.

Chicago's 21" snow depth means that only 3 winters on record had a higher snow depth

1978-79: 29"

1966-67: 27"

1917-18: 25"

2010-11: 21" (tie)

Toledos 17" snow depth means only 2 winters have had a higher snow depth

1899-00: 21"

1977-78: 19"

While Detroit's 14" snow depth is not close to a record, it's remarkable how many winters have seen snow depth eclipse a foot since 1999.

1998-99: 24"

2000-01: 12"

2004-05: 12"

2008-09: 14"

2010-11: 16"

2013-14: 20"

2014-15: 18"

2017-18: 14"

2020-21: 14"

9 of the past 23 winters saw a snow depth over a foot at Detroit. prior to this 9 of the previous 100 years did so.

ORD is up to 44.2” on the season now.

.

40.7" of that has occurred since January 1.  It is the 6th highest January 1-February 16 snow total on record (would be even more impressive at Midway).  None of these other winters had as slow of a start as this one.

Most snow from Jan 1-Feb 16:

1)  50.4" -- 1978

2)  47.8" -- 2014

3)  47.3" -- 1918

4)  45.5" -- 1979

5)  43.0" -- 1967

6)  40.7" -- 2021

up to 9 degrees and full sunshine.  Feels like a heatwave outside.  Will finally be able to melt some of the snow and ice that's been stuck on the roads

I thought temps overachieved today when I left work, it felt pretty decent out.  Was surprised it was only 9 degrees lol.  30s will feel like the 4th of July.
