Can't tell if that's a dry slot near Hamilton. +SN at 11am. Grass completely covered. That death band looks like it dropped 1-1.5" in 30 minutes. Too bad it's so narrow. Yes, we're going to have slot issues making the pcpn more showery.

blizzardof96
Textbook leading 700mb FGEN band. Note the strong intersection between DGZ relative humidity, omega and mid-level frontogenesis.

MIstorm97
Got 1.8” of snow so far. Hopefully should get another inch or so later. Would put me right in the middle of my 2-4” call

Looks like main snowfall axis is going to push well north of modelled position, which is a pretty remarkable north trend of the 700mb RH zone. Will see how much activity can build into GTA off the lake with the low level easterlies.

Baum
probably got another inch of synoptic snow to go based on radar trends which should put me past the 5" mark.

madwx
still lightly snowing here. Family member got 9.5" in the NW part of Dane County. They were under the heavy fronto band for about 3 hours last night.
mimillman
Blowing snow now. Going to be a fight between blowing snow and sun poking through clouds before the lake effect band arrives that hits Alek to the north and Hoosier to the south. Maybe we'll get some flurries in between
Natester
Looks like my original call of 5 inches was the right call. Much of the snow fell when I was asleep. Meanwhile, IC got 9 inches of snow. In b4 reply from mimillman for my pessimism.

janetjanet998
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CHICAGO/ROMEOVILLE, IL 1102 AM CST TUE JAN 26 2021 UPDATE 1102 AM CST BANDS OF MODERATE, TO OCCASIONALLY HEAVY SNOW CONTINUE TO IMPACT FAR NORTHERN IL, MAINLY NORTH OF I-88. THIS ACTIVITY APPEARS TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH A BAND OF BETTER FRONTOGENESIS AROUND 700 MB AND NEAR THE TRACK OF THE 700MB LOW. THERE ARE ALSO SOME INDICATIONS THAT SOME LAKE ENHANCEMENT IS ALSO OCCURRING ACROSS NORTHEASTERN IL, WITH SOME SHOWERY BROKEN MULTI-BANDS BEGINNING TO SET UP. OVERALL, THE HEAVIER BANDS OF SNOW CURRENTLY ONGOING OVER THE NORTHERN TIER OR TWO OF COUNTIES IN NORTHERN IL WILL LIKELY BEGIN TO ABATE AS WE HEAD INTO THE EARLY AFTERNOON, BUT EXPECT OCCASIONAL LIGHTER SNOW SHOWERS TO CONTINUE THIS AFTERNOON, ESPECIALLY AROUND LAKE MICHIGAN. ADDITIONAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF AN INCH OR SO ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH EARLY AFTERNOON IN THE HEAVIEST BAND ACROSS THE NORTHERN CHICAGO SUBURBS. OTHERWISE, SNOW RATES SHOULD BE DIMINISHING THIS AFTERNOON, WITH ONLY SOME OCCASIONAL HIGHER RATES IN ANY MORE ORGANIZED LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS NEAR THE LAKE. WINTER HEADLINES ARE CURRENTLY SET TO EXPIRE AT NOON FOR ALL BUT MY EASTERN COUNTIES NEAR THE LAKE, WHICH PERSIST UNTIL EARLY THIS EVENING. THIS LOOKS OKAY AT THIS POINT AS MOST OF THE ACCUMULATING SNOW FOR INLAND AREAS SHOULD BE ENDING EARLY THIS AFTERNOON. WITH THAT BEING SAID, WE WILL HAVE TO MONITOR MCHENRY AND KANE COUNTIES FOR A POSSIBLE EXTENSION FOR A FEW HOURS INTO THE AFTERNOON. KJB

janetjanet998
perhaps this segment of the system (700mb low with Lake enhancement) can overachieve for NE IL??? MKE in their recent discussion said they only expected another inch but since then MKE radar has filled in nicely
