How far is too far from civilization for you? How long are you willing to commute? Pick a place in SNE and NNE. Where did you enjoy living in the past? Beautiful countryside, solid average snowfall, easy to get to NYC, Albany, Boston, ADKs, access to cultural offerings and skiing. My northern pick is technically in the Mid-Atlantic: Upper St Regis Lake NY, but I guess Holderness NH would be a solid back up. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

No matter where you live it’s small square footage and not luxurious, but this is the place/location you absolutely love, wouldn’t give it up for anything. Where is it? I am more of a southern New England resident but enjoy traveling to northern New England, particularly to Maine where our family has a cabin. I'm quite happy with the area I live in now as I am close to family and geographically I can get to the CT shore and Southern VT in an hour. Close to Springfield and Hartford and not an unreasonable drive to Worcester, Boston or New York. I have an abundance of shopping and restaurants within 5-10 minutes of my house , only a couple miles from interstate 91 in a suburban setting but can easily travel to more rural areas in 20 minutes. If I had to make a trade, I would give up some of the convenience for some additional snowfall with elevation, more hilly terrain, and classic colonial architecture Perhaps somewhere on the east slopes of the Berkshires or Litchfield Hills, but not really far out there, like a Barkhamsted CT or a Granville Mass at 1k+ where you could still drive down to the valley in 15-20 minutes where there is shopping and conveniences. If I could, in PFs camper, I would have wintered in the Maine Mountains in Eastern Maine somewhere around Bethel or even Randolph NH. Summers would be of course be in Southern RI at Weekapaug. Fantasy aside, being 45 minutes from the Ocean and an hour or 2 from good skiing I can not complain about the Moosup Sterling border. PVD, ORH, both casinos within an hour, BOS HFD 90 minutes. Close enough yet far enough away. Winter is decent with last 20 years averaging 60 or so. She's from CT so she likes that too. I would prefer to live somewhere north and/or west of the city. Between 495 and 128. In an ideal world where I won powerball and did not have to work, I would have a place on the outer Cape, Bay side in the summer. They park in the Bonanza Flat trailhead and snowmobile to their homes. When I was out in Park City last March I saw them sitting up there at like 8000-9000ft buried to the second story, and you can see their snowmobile roads. My buddy knew someone who lived there and for being some place out in the wilderness, it's like a 5 min snowmobile ride to your car and a 15 minute drive down into all the creature comforts of Park City. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Summers there too, but in SNE, I like the Onset area. It's essentially the Cape, but no bridge to cross. I like the beach, my wife grew up on Aquidneck Island. I know she want's a house on the beach, but I'm going to try to sell her on the Outer Banks. Can get there in a day's driving, land is affordable, and great spot for 'canes. Surrounded by the 28K acre Bunnell wildlife preserve. Dead quiet most of the time and a unique sunset every day (when the sun is out which is rare this time of year). Annual average snowfall ~ 150". Ideally just a hair west near Epping .Go in the summer and take her to a beach if that’s her thing , nice nite out in Portsmouth, then move somewhere like on the snowy side of the SE NH coastal front On 101.
