i think Ryan stated upthread that the goal of the initial lockdowns was the "flatten the curve" to protect the collapse of our healthcare system. it worked for the most part. the goal was never to have zero covid cases, but that seems to be Fauci's want right now, which again as stated above, is impossible.

The vaccines don't even 100% protect you from getting covid. However they are 99+% at preventing severe cases of covid, which is really good. But the messaging out there has not reached the general public, aside from us educated folks. It needs to be stated clearly and frequently that even though you have gotten the vaccine, you may still get covid. 

Twitter is going to go haywire the first time that someone who has gotten the vaccine gets covid.

Already happened. Some people, anecdotal of course contracted covid between their 2 shots. The best protection will be ~2-3 wks after the 2nd dose.

My mother contracted Covid like 2 weeks after her first shot. It’s not even that uncommon, I’ve heard several similar stories. Especially between the first and second shot

Happy to see that I am now eligible for getting vaccinated, although I am thinking it will take me a while to find an appointment.

I really think supermarket workers, etc should be ahead of me in line though

I was watching Bill Maher last Friday night ...  Paraphrasing one of his segment lead-ins ( because it is something that has bothered me for some time)  ...there seems to be this cultural lust for dystopian realization to become of reality  'Why is the press and everyone that reads the press and all of these different agencies, the whole world, ignoring all the optimistic data. Yet, we cannot expect mask wearing to go on for ever....' etc etc... He went on to site hard numbers proving that this is getting better faster than modeled ... ( enter reason here )

I opined just yesterday about the how much time along the last million years of human evolution was spent in masks, and how that so uniquely situates us to accept this will be this way for ever, willing, so long as the CNN's thinks they can make money off gaslighting idiots that can't stop thumb swiping their phones and clicking their PC mouses through those sites' labyrinth of "Doomscrolling"

Hint hint... I think that's part of what the problem is here - within seemingly "economic minutes" of this thing being declared a Pandemic late in 2019, this became Incorporated ..

Ever since, people that are capable of influencing the masses that are apparent of the ginormous economic machine, don't want their cash-cow going away. 

I mean it may not be that coherently quantifiable as a cause but something of prefer not to see the optimism is attempting to block seeing lights at the end of this tunnel.

There have been all sorts of businesses new and old that are making a killing off the pandemic and I'm sure would rather see things stay the way they are. The media continues to feed the fear, to the benefit of said companies.

Hopefully I can get my shot by April, looking to take a trip out to Yellowstone with the kids in May, we want to be fully vaccinated before that.  Crazy to see that 2.5M+ have died in just over 12 months, imagine if we would have listen to the it's just the flu crowd,. 5M? 10M?

The conversation about information and things like Twitter reminds me of reading about the difference (in a medical context) between a specialist and a generalist.  The specialist knows more and more about less and less, finally knowing everything about nothing.   The generalist knows less and less about more and more, finally knowing nothing about everything.  The internet and social media are making mostly "generalists" of a lot of us - real knowledge about a few things and very superficial knowledge (and a nice anonymous forum) about many many things.
