Today was not that day though. First image was at noon. I wanted to get one in case the sunset was socked in. Taken with the 16-35mm at 16mm... I was out for the sunset in case the Sun could round the corner of the cloud shield and sneak in some nice color. Here it looks like it might happen. Taken with the 16-35mm at 35mm... The result was beyond my expectation. It did not last long but it was amaing while it did it's thing. Taken with the 24-70mm at 35mm... As the red was fading, Still thought it looked cool. Started off the day around noon when some cirrus was the vanguard of the wave and put some texture in the sky. Looking northwest. Taken with the 16-35mm at 21mm... Looking northeast and using a circular polarizer to make the sky pop a little bit more. Taken with the 24-70mm at 35mm... Looking east above the police station and using the circular polarizer again. Taken with the 24-70mm at 30mm... And now onto the evening and back out at the pond. Looking southeast when I got out there. Taken with the 16-35mm at 16mm... Looking north northwest. Taken with the 16-35mm at 21mm... Start off the color portion of the evening with a parhelia (sundog) on the southside of the Sun. Taken with the 24-70mm at 45mm... And now onto the max color dynamics of the post sunset. Taken with the 16-35mm at 27mm... And ending the evening with the fading color moving off to the western horizon. I was sitting on the front steps with the camera and taking crepuscular rays images before the showers came. A little over/under crepuscular ray action. Taken with the 100mm... Some vivid cloud shadows with small iridescence kind of partially hidden. I might have gotten a little over-zealous with the color trying to make the iridescence pop a little more. It is what it is. But around sunset a tongue of cirrus from the wave to the south, crept into the area in just the right place and time. Looking to the south as I got to the pond and that tongue of cirrus. Taken with the 16-35mm at 35mm... First look west down at the water. Taken with the 16-35mm at 30mm... Close to local sunset. Taken with the 16-35mm at 35mm... And straight to the beginning of the red. Taken with the 16-35mm at 21mm... Ending the night with the last of the red. Taken with the 16-35mm at 35mm... Good night my darlin'. I was on the side of that road, Hall-Baker Road. Do not care for being right next to that traffic. But it was someplace that looked different. Started off looking to the north from up there. The views to the north look good from up there. Taken with the 16-35mm at 16mm... A view to the west right at local sunset. Taken with the 24-70mm at 48mm... Beginning of the post sunset color. Taken with the 100mm... Back to the north as the red/orange as shifting from the east to the west. Taken with the 16-35mm at 19mm... A view back to the west as the orange got there. Taken with the 16-35mm at 16mm... A vertical view as the color was vacating the area. Taken with the 16-35mm at 35mm... With the inversion lifting off to the east was not sure if there would be any clouds around. Looking east as I got to the grass area behind the firehouse. Taken with the 16-35mm at 30mm... Just a few smudges of low level clouds glowing orange as the Sun got close to the horizon. Taken with the 24-70mm at 58mm... Fortunately the next wave over towards Missouri was pumping some cirrus into the western sky. Taken with the 24-70mm at 46mm... There was a smattering of red but it as all towards the south and the on-ramp for the interstate was kind of in the way where I was. Taken with the 24-70mm at 70mm... The dry air killed it rather rapidly as the sunset progressed. Just surprised it as there at all. Looking west from up on Hall-Baker road when I got to the firehouse. Looking almost straight up at the cirrus. Taken with the 16-35mm at 16mm... When I got out to behind the firehouse for the sunset. Some nice crepuscular rays/cloud shadows that only look like the tree is causing. Taken with the 16-35mm at 35mm... And the post sunset colors starts. The yellow. taken with the 16-35mm at 29mm... The orange. taken with the 24-70mm at 51mm... And ending the night with the max color dynamics/ start of the red. Taken with the 24-70mm at 51mm... My oldest lens, the 24-70mm gave up the ghost in the beginning of the shoot. Kept getting the error code for bad lens connection but I could see that the aperature had slammed down to the bare minimum and locked there. So I had to soldier on with a gap between 35mm and 100mm. Made me work a bit. Goin g to split this into two post also. Starting off with the pre-sunset. Looking to the east when I got there. Taken with the 16-35mm at 31mm... BTW....I LOVE the reds nope. No soon fix. I had hoped that it was just a cold-soaking problem but leaving it alone inside all week the error just repeated when I tried the lens again. It is cooked for good. Probably be easier to just get another new lens. Trouble was last week I drove to the camera store and they had closed the store closest to me. The main store in downtown Indy is still open. Now I only have to decide to try it now when the roads are good or after the holidays when the road might me a mess. Decisions, decisions. P.S.
