BornAgain13
The Euro may very well be right for the mountains but I don't believe the moisture gets shut off east of there as modeled... especially since the NAM was doing the same thing and came around and filled in today
ChesterfieldVa80
I'm not buying the evolution of the precipitation shield on the NW side as shown on Euro.

BullCityWx
If I had to venture a guess about the 15z SREF, I think means are going to go up. The most snow on the entire map is in Richmond.
olafminesaw
The Euro definitely moves quicker and hugs the coast less than the NAM, which is one reason for the discrepancy. I think the hires NAM works as a decent middle ground (although I'd definitely think less than it depicts Is likely)

It’s not like we have some mammoth 1046 HP up in Upstate NY. I will just continue to pray the Canadian and the Para GFS are correct. Wouldn’t want to be @Disc in this predicament. griteater
We can ignore the part about the v16 only being run once a day as it is now available on sites 4 times a day. Anyway, for those who don't know, Philippe used to post in here out of Greenville, SC as @phil882 and he is now a forecaster at the National Hurricane Center https://twitter.com/pppapin/status/1339608830007799810?s=20 6

calculus1
WSW wording. Everything but the kitchen sink possible. Quote URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC 233 PM EST Wed Jan 6 2021 ...WINTER STORM EXPECTED TO IMPACT PORTIONS OF WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY... .A storm system moving from the Deep South through the coastal plain of Georgia and South Carolina will spread precipitation into western North Carolina from late Thursday evening through Friday morning before tapering off Friday afternoon. Sufficient cold air will be in place such that mostly snow is expected across the mountains, with the exception of the lower valleys of southwest North Carolina. While precipitation is expected to initially fall as rain across the foothills and northwest Piedmont, a cooling atmosphere is expected to support a transition to snow Friday morning, roughly along and north of I-40. Heavy snow accumulations will be possible in these areas before the precipitation tapers off, or changes back to rain Friday afternoon. While rain and snow are expected to be the main precipitation types, a brief period of sleet or freezing rain will be possible, especially from the Blue Ridge escarpment through the northwest Piedmont, but any sleet or ice accumulations are expected to be minor.
