Merry Christmas! I have never seen snow melt as fast as last night. Combine with losing power for a few hours and trees toppling we had an adventurous Christmas Eve night. One a child wakes up on Christmas, even if it is 4am, good luck getting them back to sleep!  It feels way too warm once again on Christmas.

Its was funny to see, at least for a short time the Delware coast to E New England the warmest places in the US. Low 60s in NYC, 20s in GA..teens in spots, 30s into FL.

@wdrag I did get a chance to go down to take a look at the Delaware...did not get photos but it seemed normal. However, a family member (my mother, for what it’s worth) who had to go to work reported that the creek near where her work is was ready to spill into the road.

At Caribou, the high temperature through 1 pm was 55° degrees. That broke the daily record of 48° set in 2003 and tied in 2014. It was also the warmest temperature on record for the second half of December. The previous record was 54°, which was set on December 21, 1973 and tied on December 18, 2000.

Wind was rocking here last night. I’m in a new place on the Hudson river. 14th floor. Had a freight train sound to it. We got to sleep around 2:00 and woke back up about 2:50 when, according to some of the obs, all hell seemed to break loose.

10 miles north of DC am I and did get snow flurries with post sunrise high of 34 around 11am and now 31.

I had to go over to Ridgefield CT a little while ago and other than a few trees down and some debris on the roads there's not much damage that I could see. Here on my hill in Mahopac the wind has turned to mostly westerly and the temp is dropping steadily.

Looks like a general 1-2 inches across the city and Long Island...but I saw those reports were between 8 and 9 am and we still had heavy rain going on after that (even into the afternoon)!  any updated reports on rain and wind, Don?

This evening, the temperature rose to 63° (17.2°C) at Cap Chat, Quebec. That broke the December record high temperature. The previous monthly record was 62° (16.7°C), which was set on December 21, 1957.

It is now past midnight in parts of eastern Canada. Numerous daily record high temperatures have fallen in parts of Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia. Records have also been toppled in parts of Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick. Locations setting records at or just after midnight include Bathurst, NB; Charlottetown, PE; Halifax; Mary’s Harbour, NL; and Saint John, NB.

Record high temperatures are likely to fall once midnight arrives in parts of eastern Quebec.

Well unfortunately the wind blew my mother’s pool down here in Port Reading and my neighbor had one of those erector type car sheds and that ripped the lag bolts right out of the ground and blew into his neighbors house.

BGM may have experienced one of the quickest reductions in a 35”+ snow depth for the Northeast. It only took BGM 8 days to drop  from 39” to 1”.  The last time BGM had  snow depth at 35” it lasted 16 days in March 1993.

THE SNOW DEPTH THIS MORNING AT 7 AM WAS 39 INCHES. THE OLD RECORD 
WAS 35 INCHES ON MARCH 15 1993 AFTER A BLIZZARD.

Belleayre had an avalanche.

Snow right into the lodge. No injures, lots of damage. They say they had 6.5 inches of rain on their website

Here's some more review material: Wind power outages leftover more than a day after the fact.  NO snowmelt qpf analysis (general by radar-platforms) which has resulted in many minor small stream flood events. Impact is mainly local detours and flood plain basements/yards.  Probably my last on this.

I'm seeing pictures all the way up to the border in NH and VT and the ground is bare. Many ski areas were washed clean and need to start from scratch again. In this year of reduced revenues and ticket sales this could put them over the edge.
