Winds have dropped rapidly since the front came through. Worst I figure is pretty much over here windwise. Rain is still falling, which only exacerbates that problem.

Isothermal layer probably prevented much more impact on LI..s Coastal CT... still fairly impressive in the area at 510A. Here are some platforms for cursory verification in a quick check.

Saw the upper 50s temp cap on wind below 40 kt at ISP/GON so far, Also the 50-55KT at JFK/LGA/BDR. Not sure what CP max temp was--probably only 61ish. Also bluewave pointed out the MOS warm temps vs GFS raw were wayyyy too high for e LI (good catch). Am wondering if that contributed to the GEFS high bias probabilities for 60+ MPH gusts eastern LI?

Wind has died down quite a bit here but my highest gust was 54 mph at around 4:00, damage seems minimal around here except a couple shingles that blew off the roof. Doesn't look like any power outages in my neighborhood

Yeah, the Wantagh mesonet gusted to 53 mph on the South Shore at 58°. Further north in Westchester the Somers station gusted to 71mph while at 61°.

Somers in northern Westchester recorded a 71 mph gust at their mesonet. Low 60s gusts in Queens, Bronx then it drops off some towards LI for whatever reason.

That station is just a few miles south of me and situated similarly to me. It's exposed to the E/ESE and on a hillside. The numbers for other stations within a short distance are more similar to Brewster's 51. Most of the area is high 50s maxes but I'll tell you, it was roaring. My wife and kids were sitting in downstairs doorways because they were afraid we were going to have a tree land on the house.

Temp and exposure. Up here on the hills and ridges it was impressive.

A quick visual scan of my property looks like I got lucky, just a few large branches down. Gonna go charge up the battery for the chainsaw and have some Christmas fun later.

Thanks for all the forecasting Walt. I stayed in the upper 50s at my location on the south shore and max gusts look like right around 55.

Nothing too crazy on winds out this way, very thankful of that. I feel for the people without power, Christmas morning an all. But we definitely had a deluge; water-logged between the rain and snow melt.

Looking forward to seeing the heights of some of the local rivers on our way to my parents.
