Winter 2020-2021 whining thread

All winter long, we’ve heard the repeated mantra that “the players are on the field”.  For almost every system that flies through, don’t worry, folks, because “the players are on the field”.  Well, I don’t know about y’all, but our players seem to be a bunch of overpaid, lazy prima donnas who don’t want to work for their checks.

”It’s not my fault.  Cold air mass couldn’t catch a ball if he tried.”

”Don’t look at me.  I was being blocked by those damn linemen in the Apps.”

Our players on the field suck.  No heart.  No drive.

Might as well move on to spring training.

I have the sudden urge to play me some Fallout.
Made a full version of the parody I did, hope everyone here on the board enjoys!

For those who missed the first one, it is a parody of "Uranium Fever".
-----------------

Well, I live on down by the Carolina shore
But I'm a winter weenie down to the core
So I took a chance and made some plans
To go find me some snowy lands

Cause Southeast winter always makes me frown
Southeast winter, there is no cold air around!
Pack up the truck, pick up my stake
I swear I'll move to a northern state
Cause Southeast winter always makes me frown

I caved in and bought Weatherbell
On the prayer my goal prevailed
I scanned through the models trying to find a spot
And soon found one that looked like the jackpot

I sped like a bullet as fast as I could
Taking back trails in those Smoky woods
When at last I arrived around the bend
Trying to cash in on the northwest trend

Cause Southeast winter always makes me frown
Southeast winter, there is no cold air around!
Pack up the truck, pick up my stake
I swear I'll move to a northern state
Cause Southeast winter always makes me frown

I took stock as I set up camp
Keeping my phone charged and oil in my lamp
However the very next thing I knew
That damned ridge had flexed and grew

I tell ya man, I started to sweat
Fearing that this trip would only end in regret
So I went to sleep to clear my mind
Dreaming of seventy-three and eighty-nine

Cause Southeast winter always makes me frown
Southeast winter, there is no cold air around!
Pack up the truck, pick up my stake
I swear I'll move to a northern state
Cause Southeast winter always makes me frown

Dawn approached
Morning came
And the HRRR showed it was go time
Steadying my nerves I looked across the sky
Only to realize the NAM again had told a lie

Thirty-three and rain isn't fun
That ol' warm nose is a son of a gun
Sighing in disappointment I packed up my gear
Heading home until next year

Cause Southeast winter always makes me frown
Southeast winter, there is no cold air around!
Pack up the truck, pick up my stake
I swear I'll move to a northern state
Cause Southeast winter always makes me frown!

This is the current map. It really shows the tough in the middle of the country and this seems to have been the prevailing pattern this year, with almost no movement East. It's strange, despite not having a major SER this year it's been there enough to keep out the true cold. Next week the cold looks to be magnified and epanded a bit East to LA/MS/AL, but basically seems to stay in place.

And here's today's image. Again, the position of the trough and SER are very clear. Unfortunately this looks to be the case for the next week leaving us in the warm and wet sector. Just too bad we could get it to move East!

I'm one of the few that grew up in Cary, NC and it's amazing how different winters are now in comparison to the 80's.  It seemed we always had 2 good winter storms a year.  Now we're lucky to get 2 good winter storms a decade...LOL!  That's part of the reason I'm not on the board much anymore.  I got tired of getting the Charlie Brown football/Lucy routine pulled on me all the time.  Now after at least 15 years on weather boards the disappointment isn't as bad because you actually expect the models to change to either a warmer solution or to shift north. :D

Now bring on the 7 out of 8 days of rain...:flood:

Been here all my life. I agree about the 80's and if you can believe it the 70's were even better. I remember being able to walk across small ponds on the ice on the way to school. I was a lot lighter then though...

My uncle always talks about the 60s in the mountains being the best. Of course dad talks about the 80s. I guess I've got 2009 and 2010.

My parents moved to Cary in '73 and I was 4 so I remember those 70's winters also.  Those winters were so much colder.

GFS run has cancelled winter. Some might see some light ice over next couple days but we go into a spring pattern beyond that. Once what’s left of this artic air in the MW gets ejected it looks very spring like here later on.

BRB.  Going to go start the Winter 2021-2022 Whining thread.  Don’t worry.  I’m on top of things, friends.  LOL

I love this thread. We are all getting out 3 years of frustration. I’m still flake less for 3 years now. I think global warming has changed the climate. Rockingham is now the new Augusta Ga. My only expectations moving forward over the next 5 years is a very rare snowstorm but I really doubt that will happen. Winter is over forever .
