high risk
While it's a bit unclear how much precip will linger immediately behind the front (for a brief period of sleet or snow early Christmas morning in the DC metro area), there may be more hope for a period of snow showers during Christmas Day as the upper trough axis swings through, and low-level lapse rates steepen. There is a very weak signal in the NAM nest, but there is a smack-you-in-the-face-with-a-small-snowball signal in the 18z HRRR.
snowfan
NAM w a nice precip max over the areas still holding onto snow. Before it’s obliterated. Ski areas....especially south of deep creek starting to lock in on a wind whipped 4-8” snowfall.
BristowWx
I don’t think flurries are off the table for. Xmas in the metros. If you get up early enough perhaps.
CAPE
Kind of interesting how most guidance is placing a snow shower/squall across S MD over to the lower eastern shore Xmas evening. Might have to do a flizzard chase.

Hrrr 18z also is a flooding rain event for many with 3-5" numerous locals verbatim. Still snowpack here . Icon lays down 5 inch rain amounts in Pa where 15-30" fell past week . Yep, this is definitely not your run of the mill cold front. Much prefer this over boring weather.

pazzo83
overnight low of 23F at DCA is the coldest since Feb 15, 2020 (22F). feels like it takes a very cold airmass just to get us into the 20s these days.
WVclimo
Temp struggling to get out of the mid-20s today with limited sunshine. It’s been quite a prolonged stretch of cloudy weather the past 10-11 days.
wxdude64
Agree with you WVclimo. Another cloudy day with a peak of sun for a few minutes earlier this morning. Got a LONG way to go to hit NWS's 36 degree high they calling for (and sunshine). Currently 24.8 after a morning low of 10.1. That was missed by all forecasts too, most were either 16 or 17 for a low.

nj2va
We just got to McHenry...currently 17 degrees. Measured anywhere between 5”-12” of snow depth depending on location due to wind/blowing snow. @jaydreb 5

wxdude64
After yesterday's 10.1 low, a 17.6 for this morning. Never topped 32, but close at 31.8 for a high. Still about 2 inches of snowcover on ground, that should take hit with upper 40's called for with sun this afternoon.

I meant to add the other day that I learned the cooking process really keeps going once you take the prime rib out of the oven. Came out at 115 and thought I was good..20mins later 123...then the sear adds a few more degrees...next time I will take out at 110. The ends were solid medium so almost a disaster. Middle was perfecto!
nj2va
Currently 41 and snowpack is taking a beating today - temp rose 10 degrees overnight in a span of 2 hours. Hoping to pick up an inch tonight as temps drop this afternoon.

Snow piles in many places though currently . There really hasn't been a torch all December that I recall and now Fri which was supposed to be 57 -60 could be upper 30s for highs . I bet you see at least 50 on Friday.
