Wow, I had no idea it got that warm over by the river.  We were held to the low 30s by the snow.

I picked up 0.9" of snow, about what was expected and a nice hors d'oeuvres ahead of the bigger snow this week.

The overnight system brought just 0.08" of light rain, but gusty winds and temperatures rising into the low 40s evaporated our Winter wonderland into piles and a few patches.

Last night we got a good 2" of snow from this little system. A pretty light powder of a snow, just enough to make everything look nice and white again after a very inconviently timed melt.

Once again, another overcast Monday. Overcast every single Monday this month. Going to be one of those weeks, especially with a long crappy New Year's weekend ahead.

Not at the office so I'm not sure what went on with that. Seems like there's another chance to get on the board tonight if any of the occasional more robust snow showers move over ORD. This holiday mood dust is better than nothing. Did a lights tour around Naperville and the snow falling made for a nice vibe.

Walking around on the snowpack here gives you the sense that it will have some pretty good staying power.  Very dense with all the ice that fell on top of the snow.  There's still ice on the trees as it didn't get above freezing here today.

Detroit finished December with 9.6" of snow, exactly normal. Season to date 13.1". I received 10.4" of snow, 13.8" on season. It was milder than average (32.9) but nowhere near the top 20, and it was also drier than average (1.36").  All in all a forgettable month though with a perfect White Christmas.

YYZ finished with ~13.6" but there's some missing data at the beginning of the month so I suspect it's close to 14.6". We finished above average as well. YYZ is ~23" on the season. Snow wise, it was a great month with that Dec 1 storm and Christmas storm. Otherwise, it was mild and pretty boring overall I agree. Let's hope January is better.

...A Look Back at the Climate for the Month of December 2020 for
Chicago and Rockford...

At Chicago, the average high temperature was 39.3 degrees, which is
4.5 degrees above normal. The average low temperature was 26.4
degrees, which is 5.7 degrees above normal. The average temperature
for the month was 32.9 degrees, which is 5.2 degrees above normal.
During the month of December, 2.55 inches of precipitation were
recorded, which is 0.30 inches above normal. 2.8 inches of snow
fell, which is 5.4 inches below normal.

There were no daily or monthly records set for Chicago during the
month of December 2020.

At Rockford, the average high temperature was 39.7 degrees, which is
6.5 degrees above normal. The average low temperature was 23.1
degrees, which is 5.4 degrees above normal. The average temperature
for the month was 31.4 degrees, which is 6.0 degrees above normal.
During the month of December, 1.76 inches of precipitation were
recorded, which is 0.22 inches below normal. 7.4 inches of snow
fell, which is 3.9 inches below normal.

There were three daily records for Rockford during the month of
December 2020:
* Record daily high temperature of 55 degrees on the 9th.
* Record daily high temperature of 57 degrees on the 10th.
* Record daily high temperature of 62 degrees on the 23rd.

There were no monthly records set for Rockford during the month of
December 2020.

Boy this was an understatement lol.  We've picked up 27.3" of snow since Dec 29th, and have only melted off maybe an inch or two as temps have been below freezing pretty much the entire stretch.  There's been some settling, sublimation, and compaction which reduced about 25" down to the current 16" of depth.  We've had deeper snowpack (not by much in my memory) but this is the most impressive one I think, as it has 3 layers of ice within it as well, the bottom of which is a good 1-1.5" thick.  Looks like it may go deep into March unless we really torch in early March.
