Then a once in a lifetime storm struck.

Indeed, it’s not reasonable to expect a storm of that magnitude, but at this point, even something like the President’s Day 2003 storm would at least make it not crazy to start thinking about catching some of those epic years.

Big fan of this site. I know very little about weather but I do enjoy the snow. I live in the western part of Allegheny Co and I noticed with this storm, holes kept popping up in the radar in that area. I thought it was maybe a radar issue but the totals KeefRichards posted seem to match what I saw. What causes those dry spots that don't move while precipitation continues to pour in?  It's almost like there was a dome over our neighborhood.

Thanks!

GFS looks like it made a move toward the European on the weekend event. Gives a colder outcome but the system looks more disorganized.

Looks like it could still give us a few inches of snow, and pours in the bitter cold behind it just like the Euro. Bottom line seems to be we’re still very much in the game for a subzero night this winter.

Yep, at least it would be a pack maintainer since we avoid plain rain. Also it looks like its loading up a storm for the 16th-17th like the Euro

The Arctic high seems to squash our storm track in that solution. Still a lot of time for that to resolve.

Of course, the first step is that the storm has to exist, even if it’s currently depicted as spreading a wintry mix across NC/SC.

Airport definitely lighter than the city this time. Probably missed that intial real heavy band. Solid 5-6” closer to city

This. City definitely got all of 5 or 6. Solid event. Just missing a 12+ storm for the best winter ever.

4.5" for a storm total.

The late Wednesday event might be good for 1-3", while the early Friday snow may miss entirely to the south.  Still watching how next week evolves.  The setup is there for something, but the models having trouble with so many pieces.  They can't really determine which to evolve and how.

I’m wondering if we see Sunday trend towards a lesser event and maybe bigger storm Tuesday.

With the Euro never really biting on the big storm the GFS had been showing for sunday, I think you could be right.
