crossbowftw3
This thing is moving fast--up to 53 MPH now. Would not be shocked if the remnant rains are largely over by 8-10 PM tonight

Of course the 53 MPH forward speed isn't even close to being a record, as the LI express hurricane is believed to have been moving between 60 and 70. Nonetheless the dry slot will punch in and shut down most of the precip until that second low rolls in, with the precipitation likely all but over by sunrise-10 AM or so tomorrow. Interesting trends for New England though, as advisory snows might be looking likelier there now.

Zeta now moving at 55 MPH, the dry slot is punching in rather fast.
jm1220
Zeta moving at 55mph with 50mph sustained winds-must have been crazy in VA/NC with 105mph winds SE of the track!!

crossbowftw3
Dry slot closing in now, I can probably see a few hours of drizzle or even just straight up dry weather up here but I'm seeing returns coming into WPA from the trough now.

gravitylover
Closing on 1.5" now with the wind picking up big time over the last hour or so. All of the storm drains are completely clogged and the water is cascading down the center of the streets in sheets. Driving is interesting at best. Hopefully the next round of precip is light or the back side freeze could be a mess.

I've wanted to ask this question before, but since the 1938 hurricane was moving so fast, were the winds not very strong on the western side of the hurricane? That precip in western PA and Ohio seems to be more impressive than modeled even the new HRRRRR. Convective too, might see some wild stuff. jm1220
It does look like the precip will fire up extensively and get moderate to heavy across the area as the strong upper low comes in. Hopefully it can be cold enough for snow to mix in area wide. If it was December we’d be looking at 6-12” everywhere just from this wave.
