More outages now. Looks like parts of Springfield are starting to go down now based on the City utility website.

Been getting emails here from the local coop asking people for help and to turn off everything possible cause of the same reasons! This is not good. This area is just not use to cold extremes like this, does look to start warming up a bit during the daytime here soon though.

Evergy, who serves the eastern half of Kansas/western half of Missouri, announced they would be instituting rolling black outs in their coverage zone as well...

As per SPP guidelines... Going to be an interesting next couple days for many.

It is past time to modernize the power grid. There is no way we should be faced with rolling blackouts in the middle of an historic cold outbreak.

Honestly it has nothing to do with being modernized our not. ERCOT plants run on fuels that don't do well in sustained cold because honestly, they don't really need to (usually). Nuclear or coal would be the answer right now... good luck getting approval for those.

New NAM 12km model rolling in...system looks to be a little stronger but neutral to a slight positive tilt. Higher totals for S KS.

Regular Nam looks great for your area. I'm interested as the NAM was the only one with the comma up here today. Looks like it maybe onto one last hurrah with it tomorrow night.

New Winter Storm Warning issued by Tulsa mentions the power grid issue.

202 PM CST Mon Feb 15 2021

...WIND CHILL WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM CST TUESDAY...
...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TUESDAY TO 6 AM CST
THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills thru Tuesday morning. Wind
chills as low as 20 below zero. Moderate to heavy snow expected
late Tuesday into Wednesday. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 9
  inches.

* WHERE...Portions of east central, northeast and southeast
Oklahoma and northwest and west central Arkansas.

* WHEN...For the Wind Chill Warning, until 9 AM CST Tuesday. For
the Winter Storm Warning, from noon Tuesday to 6 AM CST
  Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. The very cold wind
chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30
  minutes.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Due to unusual demand on the electrical
system across the region...rolling blackouts are possible. We
are encouraged to find ways to conserve power over the next few
days until the arctic cold leaves.

Wow, NAM has been pretty consistent pulling that moisture farther north and its holding steady, even more so on this run. Even NAM3k is showing this now, after 12Z run kept moisture southeast of ICT.  I started seeing signs from a couple other models trending toward it. That would really cap off a pretty memorable 2 week stretch of winter weather around here!

Liberty Utilities is also doing rolling blackouts. Springfield NWS says Joplin got 4" but I don't know about that. Somewhere between 4-7" has been reported. Also they are going with additional snow of 2-6" Tues night (most being their S and SE counties)
