smokeybandit
Now we have a model war with the Euro wanting to dump over an inch of QPF, even if mostly rain. GFS a ton drier, barely any precip
Chinook
The models have been kind of a mess on this one. The NWS digital forecast has 0.50"-0.80" for a large part of the area. The NAM and GFS seem to make a little more sense than before, as they seem to be trying to forecast some convective rainfall blobs, even with the cooler temperatures. I think it will end up a lot like this week's storm....good for the mountains but a melty mix for lower elevations. Perhaps I am wishcasting a bit as I am really ready for winter weather to end . I am at ~7300' and my home is surrounded by 9k'+ mountains....this week was interesting as I could see a clear snowline just over my head, probably around 8k'
mayjawintastawm
I think the new GFS, seeing that its predecessor was no longer with us, has decided it would imitate the old version and lose its mind. Last storm never got anywhere close to snowy and in fact we only got 0.60" precip.
Chinook
It does seem like there will be an extended time of snowy weather above 7000 ft or 8000 ft.
