hawkeye_wx
I think the 9" report location near the Des Moines NWS office also received 1.5" yesterday, so that's >10" in two days in mid October. Now, watch the same location get <10" total from tomorrow through the end of January. 1 1

OrdIowPitMsp
First WWA of the season hoisted across much of Minnesota for tomorrow’s event. Not bad for October but obviously overshadowed by what occurred in Iowa today.

michsnowfreak
Kind of jealous on the snow in Iowa! We have accumulating snow here in mid may, the Midwest could only go 5 months without this year. Here it's a gray murky cold day, high in the mid 40s, but color is at peak. Few spots of green still but also lots of leaves falling & bare trees starting to show.
Brian D
Looks like the northern areas are in for a whollop later this week. Even half that for this time of year is impressive. We will see. After today's event, and tomorrow's, the system coming later this week is a bit stronger. The strong ENE winds off of the Lake could really dump a lot of snow along the ridges here Thurs night. Duluth's record is 10.6" 10/27/2017.

Great start to the new season. Temps crashed from 41 to 33 here as the snow moved in. Had a brief period of moderate snow. No accum but very nice to see a daytime snow event in mid Oct. Had a burst of sleet with a convective shower at the tail-end.
Spartman
Gonna be that kind of week where sunshine is hard to find which is usually followed by an overcast weekend. Models are in agreement on that, as well. The GFS is even hinting a washout for the entire upcoming weekend into early next week with temps stuck in the 40s. Won't be seeing any sun until Thursday. OrdIowPitMsp
Hi res models want to put down 6-8” in the twin cities. With compaction and a warm ground the official forecast of 2-5” seems more in line. Figures I’m in Rochester MN for work this week where a cold rain/snow mix is expected. michsnowfreak
I always say I'm ready for snow November 1st but Id be lying if I didn't say I was a little bit jealous of Minnesota. I got to see myself snow accumulate quickly on May 10th and 11th this year. I love how even in a hot summer, the Midwest can only go 5 months accumulating snow free lol. OrdIowPitMsp
Bumped up totals in the cities to 5-7” we might not hit 40 over the next week with some highs below freezing. Building the snowpack early this year. just wish I wasn’t down in Rochester...

Sat images showing decent convection across SD and S MN. Cauliflower look. Cirrus somewhat obscuring tho. Guess models where taking that into account and it'll probably pan out to some good numbers down there. Looking for my snow to start later this aftrn or evening. Brian D
Looks like Marshall, MN is heading for a record for Oct. They're reporting 4" as of 11 am and the record is 4.5" 10/2/1999 with 4" 10/13/1960 & 10/10/1970. Still snowing with another heavy band moving through SW MN.
