TugHillMatt
It's ridiculous. My students (elementary) have been wearing shorts all Fall. We have the windows and AC's on today. One, who lived in California, said this reminds her of winters there.
TugHillMatt
At least next week we will be closer to normal...biased towards above still...but not 20 to 25 +...at least for now.

But, there have been several years (ex. 11-12) that are similar to this year where Novembers were terribly warm and it just stayed that way through the winter. 2

Quick glance at the monthly charts... looks like that year was the warmest November on record? Average December, Cold January. Only 5” of November snow, then an average rest of season... 82” on the season that year...
BuffaloWeather
Just got back from hiking Dial and Nippletop. 14 miles in just under 7 hours. Hiked in shorts and tshirt. In the shaded areas above 4000 feet there was quite a bit of snow. 21/46 high peaks!

If Jan is going to be below normal with an open lake and peak winter conditions there will be lots of potential. I would take that. From every forecast I've seen Dec 15-Jan 15th will be the best part of winter. That is also my favorite winter period so sign me up!
TugHillMatt
So the "much less snowfall than normal" zone will get 1 inch compared to the normal 5 inches?

wolfie09
Later Sunday night a shortwave arriving from the north will bring a colder airmass across the region for the beginning of next week. This shortwave, deepening the long wave trough over our region will also bring enough cold air to transition lingering rain showers Monday over to lake effect rain/snow showers Monday night and Tuesday. It will be marginally cold enough for snow, with the lake belts east and southeast of both lakes possibly receiving accumulating lake snows. Within this west to northwest flow Monday and into Tuesday, breezy conditions are expected with gusts possibly over 35 mph.
wolfie09
It’s officially the busiest Atlantic hurricane season in 170 years of record keeping. Subtropical Storm Theta formed late on Monday, taking us further into the Greek alphabet.
