J.Spin
I’m starting to see a few flakes falling again, so this may be the approach of that next system.
timp
Nice to see everyone up north get some snow today. Ended up with around 4” in Hyde Park for round one. First upslope event at this house and seemed to perform well in this setup. Hoping to beat that 4” tonight.
powderfreak
Good grief that escalates quickly. Round two firing up. Right over the Spine, but some downwind drift too. A steady light snow just started up again here, good flake size. Crazy that it's actually even a very slight WSW wind flow in the lower levels ahead of the low. You can see on the radar that upslope band sort of is also ever so slightly NNW to SSE.
powderfreak
It's snowing pretty good when the wind doesn't blow. Just ripping big fluffy dendrites. This stuff has some loft to it until the wind packs it out a bit. We'll see what round two brings to the area. Models still look good.

I love seeing the Adirondack echoes increase. It's no SNE coastal storm but a fun event to start the season.
PhineasC
Some stray flurries around here. The peaks across the way are becoming obscured. Usually the first sign precip is just starting to approach.
timp
Absolutely pounding here. Just turned on the light and I would say a quick 2” is down. Sitting at 28° and snow growth is great.

mreaves
Per my usual reports, as noted above, 27° on the car thermo on the way home from a meeting. Snowing hard when I left. I was right next to the runway at KMPV but haven’t checked their official obs to see what they had for visibility but my guess is 1/2 mile. PhineasC
Well would you look at that, moderate snow in Randolph again! LOL
powderfreak
I mean, it is snowing very hard right now. Downstream drift or it's just snowing that much harder up at the mountain? Could be a mixture of both. Hopefully we can rake for a while this evening.

Yeah I have big flakes here. This will pile up fast. Surprised it started so early here. I have a really weak echo over me on radar and that’s it.

powderfreak
Flow is 1.0< or unblocked this evening based on the lower level radar. Snow is more from the spine and eastward. Mountain peaks block the signal in spots. Beam rise as it goes east means it's sampling higher up and deeper in the atmosphere, some further downstream drift at the ends of the radar image.
powderfreak
It is ripping snow. Almost 8” on the ground. Easily 1”/hr. This is a great opening event. 1
PhineasC
22 degrees with mod to heavy snow is really rare in my part of MD. Decades can pass between instances of this happening. Just another day up here I guess. 1

PhineasC
Looks like last night was enough to fill in all footprints and tire tracks at least. Totally fresh coat of white out there. Randolph observer guy reports 4.1” storm total for the entire event. Seems about right here. Still light snow here, 24 degrees. I am very satisfied with this event.
