Started the day expecting off/on rain all day, then it seemed like everything was sliding to the NE and we'd dry out, now we've got flash flooding and a lot in the metro area getting pummeled. yoda
Wow at the bolded in teh afternoon AFD... 5" of rain in 90 mins -- but unofficial for now Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC 228 PM EDT Thu Sep 10 2020 .SYNOPSIS... A cold front will drop south of the area through the first part of the weekend, then return northward as a warm front Sunday. Another cold front will likely impact the area early next week. && .NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/... A surface trough between an approaching cold front from the west and a tropical disturbance offshore has resulted in a band of heavy showers and thunderstorms right up and down I-95 from near Laurel, Maryland, through the immediate Washington DC metro area southward into western Charles County, Maryland. Additional showers and thunderstorms will likely develop on either side of this axis through nightfall, with additional flash flooding likely. Rainfall amounts (preliminary, unofficial) of up to 5 inches have been reported in a span of 90 minutes. This is occurring due to deep, abundant tropical moisture with PWs near 2.5 inches and high/deep warm cloud layers. Activity should gradually diminish this evening, though some local expansions/extensions of the Flash Flood Watch may be necessary. Remember, do not drive around barricades or across flooded roadways. Some patchy fog and drizzle is likely overnight with a moist atmosphere and not much wind as the front sits overhead. CAPE
2 minutes ago, Subtropics said: Reverse bust. We were due. The chance for excessive rain today was forecast yesterday for the area. Models struggle with pinpointing the exact locations where the heavy rain will occur given subtle forcing mechanisms and weak flow aloft. There is no bust here.
