Right. Its just not worth it to go back to work, so they protract the befits as long as possible, which fosters dependency.

I would almost argue the opposite in our experience up here.  People don’t want to work the service jobs and can’t find staff because they are afraid of the number of people they will need to come in contact with.  Lots of incentives starting to pop up for workers as places struggle to hire.

Many are now taking less money or no money to stay home, lol.

Nah, no worries....it wasn't directed at you in particular. But if you were in the previous covid thread that ran for a few months in spring and early summer, you'll notice a parallel. It's the same posters butting heads on the merits of lockdowns vs no lockdowns.. Nobody is going to change their mind...and then it eventually creeps more and more political as the discussion veers to the motive of such posts rather than the posts themselves....round and round we go. The end result? Nobody changes their mind and the forum becomes more uncivil.

This is why we've always had a strict "no politics" rule on the wx side....covid blurred the line. But after giving it a legit shot for months on end and even more recently to a lighter degree in this thread, it's pretty clear the arc always bends back toward the political side on this topic.

Cool.

I never entered that thread...maybe once or twice of like literally 10 seconds.

Maybe this was already brought up, but apparently the Pfizer vaccine needs to be chilled at -70 degrees and goes bad after 5 days out of those temperatures. Seems like that could pose a lot of distribution issues in worse off countries that don't have the required storage. I don't know if that temp is any different than what other vaccines require either, so it might not be that big a deal.

It’s true.  No one has changed their view nor will they.

Its not a discussion, just people talking at each other and more join the conversation as they disagree with what’s said.

Thats the internet now though.

That isn't the case with the majority...obviously, the vast majority of people made less staying home.

Right. A problematic fact that so many try to get by on so little.

Obviously, but that isn't the point. It should not be that way, but it is. And it exacerbates the issue due to the resultant reluctance to get back to work.

Its a travesty that the inequality of the income distribution is so severe, but it is.

It was brought up a couple days ago.  Having the distribution mechanism in place is huge.

It needs -80 C, or dry ice works too. mRNA degrades pretty rapidly even at normal freezer temps. Its really not a huge issue in industrialized countries. Third world....different story.

You're welcome. Let them know there's other forms of censorship on here too...like making sure we delete porn (you preferred to call the cops in that instance I think).

Well porn is offensive to the workplace and children under 18. Talking R vs D is not . In the porn cases , the police certainly should have been contacted, because if someone was on that page watching Debbie Does Dallas that was posted and they were in let’s say a bank teller setting for example.  They would likely be fired on the spot. Talking politics on a wx board gets no one fired

Wouldn’t be so sure these days.

Free speech doesn’t mean you can use someone else’s platform to say whatever you want anyway.  I’m not sure why that’s a difficult concept lol.

Pretty sure the forum rules state no politics unless in OT and we all agree to that when creating an account.

Some just can't keep it non-political.

Yeah I was semi-patronizing him if that wasn't clear enough.

I think it's no secret that our subforum has always been pretty lenient and laid back about the posting content, but it doesn't mean we draw no lines. We gave the covid thread an obscenely long leash....it didn't work out.

I’d bet 70% of us technically shouldn’t be on here during the work day anyway regardless of topic .

Always use your phone and not the company network.

Work from home FTW....company-issued laptop with remote sign-in for work, personal laptop sitting on the other part of my desk for weather posting.

I can understand the various perspectives from those in favor of lockdowns and those vehemently opposed. It does seem that the calculus changes a bit with the news of an effective vaccine. There is now a tangible end point, back in the spring the end point was highly uncertain with most seeming to assume no vaccine would be developed for years. With a tangible end point now with much less uncertainty, a rational accounting of the costs in terms of lives, economic impact, etc can realistically be calculated at this point.

We also have already seen that once the brakes are taken off, the economy does seem to rebound pretty effectively. If the restrictions are taken off and the virus is no longer a threat, I believe there will be a realease of a lot of pent up demand for travel, entertainment, and all the other industries most affected by the virus.

I would also categorically disagree that we are a country of people that would lose their motivation to go out and work hard to move up the economic ladder if they were given government support for a month or two especially since the support would end.

It's an interesting thought experiment, in the end I just hope everyone here doesn't lose someone they love to this virus and doesn't lose their livelihood or mental well being. This virus has taken a heavy toll on all of us.

Oh for sure I know what you were up to and it’s easy to see where he’s going too, ha.

Its a hot topic right now but the act of creating an account for a third-party outfit like AMWX means you lose that freedom of speech to the admin of whatever platform you sign up for.

Thats why these places have you check a box that states you agree to their policies.  You don’t check that box “I agree” for nothing.

I agree 100%.

I realize that I will get bashed for this, but if it comes down to needing to destroy the economy in order to save the most vulnerable, then I think I would rather see a survival of the fittest and most mindful element come into play.

Not bashed from me.  The alternative may be National Guard handing out food rations at the end of your street for many weeks at a time while everything continues to unravel and fall apart at the seams.

"most mindful" is the key to your statement.

The covid discussion has a lot of interesting points, but it can't stay apolitical. I was out yesterday and catching up up just now, the convo is creeping political again. It's not too uncivil (yet), but it always eventually gets back to the same talking points.

Nobody is going to change their mind RE: lockdowns from this discussion which is why I don't see the point in continuing it.

Yeah. I get that.
